Beastly Mage

Detecting the Enemy

Today's card could spell a nightmare for Ambush-dedicated decks.

Detecting the Enemy negates the Ambush mechanic on both sides. That means, neither player can use Ambush. But, your opponent can, for a turn, negate this mission's effect by discarding two cards from the hand. That goes nicely with the Hyuga hand control effect, and this card doesn't need a Hyuga out to get the effect. On top of that it's a full permanent card, so your opponent will be needing a way to get rid of it if there's an Itachi [Goal] waiting to ambush or something like that.

In limited, this could be awesome. In constructed, even more. Try it and see.

StormVyper Zera Detecting the Enemy

I'm gonna be completely honest: this card is god awful. Cutting off a player's Ambush ability is negligible, as Ambush itself is more of a luxury than anything else. It's not a win condition and it doesn't absolutely swing games, it's just a cool trick that makes cards a little better. That being said, if you're just getting harassed by your opponent to the point where you feel you need this card to keep those ninjas from jumping out of the chakra area, you were going to lose anyway, and I can assure you, it's not because of Ambush. And you can just forget about your opponent ditching the two cards to remove this thing. Most of them will just look at it, laugh, and continue on with what they're doing. We've been playing without Ambush for about 10 sets: it's really not gonna kill us to go 1 more game without it.

Limited - 1/5 (No..)
Constructed - 1/5 (..And no some more.)
