Beastly Mage
Kisame
Hoshigaki
Welcome to another week of reviews, Naruto fans!
Today's card is Kisame [Fierce Monster], a card that
has seen a lot of play in Water/Chakra Control
decks. When your opponent has one or no chakra, then
your opponent can't block Kisame's team. Then comes
the valid part: when his team wins a victory, or
outstanding victory, then you can discard one of
your opponent's Chakras. That could mean that next
turn, your opponent can't block his team, and you
get a battle reward or two right then and there. Add
to this that he's both a Jonin AND has Ambush, and
you've got one Killer Shark Demon here.
It's the beginning of the week, and I'm feeling
fine! Things are going good for your fav N. Jolly
(Google tells me there's hundreds of us!), and we
have a pretty good week of previews, which I'm told
might include some preview cards.
Today's card is one of the new stars of the Water
line up, the new Kisame. He hasn't changed a lot, so
let's look at his stats, shall we
He's pretty normal for a Kisame, but the inclusion
of Ambush is a big help, as with Water running
"Threat of the Tail'd Beast", he can be pulled back
from discard into chakra, which gives you another go
at playing him. Akatsuki doesn't really help anyone
in Water, but it's not bad if you're trying to run
around it, and the same can be said for Rogue Ninja.
But now let's go down to his ability.
[Fierce Monster]
While your opponent has 1 or less Chakra, this
Ninja's Team cannot be blocked
Valid: When this Ninja's Team wins a Victory or an
Outstanding Victory, you can collect and discard 1
of your opponent's Chakra.
This is an effect that can be greatly abused in
Water, as a lot of it's best effects already take a
toll on your Chakra. Yoroi, Threat, 5HS, and others
really add to this ninja's ability to attack
unopposed. And even if they do have the chakra to
block, if they try to chump you, it'll only help
your opponent, as they can start sniping at your
chakra (and your Ambush ninjas) with relative ease.
All in all, this is a very solid version of Kisame,
and the one that's most likely to see play in
Water's new control build. Combining cards like this
with "Secret Meeting" allows Water to go through far
too easily for most decks to stop without some
planning, so expect to see this guy in a lot of
Water decks.
Constructed:4/5 Best Kisame out there
Limited:4.5/5 Even better, as Water rules here
Art:I don't blame Kisame for having no friends,
because he looks pretty much unlovable.../5
Master Wang
Kisame Hoshigaki~Fierce Monster
Another week, another set of cards and boy oh boy
does Kisame always seem to stick out in his own way.
This card alone has probably now given chakra-eater
decks a champion to turn towards and have some
reward. Not only does it have a nice valid effect,
it certainly helps out it's first effect of not
being able to be blocked when your opponent's chakra
is at one or less.
Is he preferable in a water-tempo deck? I actually
don't think so. It'll be interesting if he sees
effective play outside of a water deck that only has
Yoroi and/or himself as chakra eaters. Some will
prefer Cold-Blooded and some will prefer Fierce
Monster, but both fundamentally work differently.
Give them both a shot in your water decks when you
play them.
