Beastly Mage
Kabuto Yakushi
Today's card is an interesting one for Water. This
version of Kabuto allows you to bring back a Ninja
from your Discard pile by Charging (as in, sending
one card from your hand to the Chakra Area) a card
with a Water symbol during your Mission Phase. This
guy is pretty good, since he doesn't have Hand Cost
and even has Ambush. Problem is that the effect
specifies that bringing back the Ninja (during the
Mission Phase) counts as a Deployment. Still, the
effect doesn't specify turn cost, rank, or anything
like that. So all Ninjas would be fair game for this
guy. Fitting effect, I say.

Today's card is a very neat Kabuto. This version of
Orochimaru's favorite lackey is a T4 ninja instead
of his usual T5 self (T5 for Jonin at least). For
his drop, he has nice support and decent combat
while healthy, but he isn't to good injured. He has
Jonin and Ambush which are two critical keywords if
you are a water player. He also has Medical and
Medicine CA which makes him splashable in a Medical
deck since he has no hand cost. Now let's examine
his effect.
During your mission phase, you can deploy ninjas
from your discard pile by charging a water card from
your hand. Since it says "deploy", entrance and hand
cost must be met and it counts as your one ninja per
turn. This can allow your to replay some of your
ninjas that might have been killed off. This can
frustrate opponent's who spent all of their
resources killing a specific ninja, only to have
them re-deployed the net turn.
The only downside to this card is its name. Most
water players will be running a pair of Kabuto
[Database]. This will only lave one slot open for
this guy or the new Kabuto from set 18, which is
also very good himself. Of course, you can run one
of each, but the two [DB]'s will be the more popular
choice. Try out the different options and see what
works for you.
