Beastly Mage
Itachi Uchiha
Today's card is one that the players at the shop I
go to have dubbed "Kindergarten Itachi". This is
because of the effect text. Note that the effect has
no name, but it consists of explanations of two
Characteristics: Ambush and Mastery. This is a good
way to explain to new players on these two
Characteristics (which, at the same time, give the
Ninja an Effect). For those in doubt: if you negate
a Ninja's Effect, then both "Ambush" and "Mastery"
will be negated. At the same time, if you negate
Characteristics, then those effects are negated as
well. Same goes for Surge. He's good for Limited,
when in need of a turn 5. In Block and Unlimited
there are better options.

I don't have much to say about this card, as it has
no effect. It has Ambush and Mastery which is cool,
I guess. Personally, I think Itachi [Goal] is
better, since it has a good effect.

Itachi, ideally, isn't into implicating indefinite
identity.
Even for a member of Akatsuki, this guy, as a card,
seems sort of mysterious in nature. He sort of seems
odd with a wall of text that basically says he's
vanilla. From here, some players set him down for
[Goal] or (Anbu Days), but others may not have. On
one hand, no "Leaf" or 6+ Combat are sort of a
Turn-off. On the other hand, a Turn 5 with Mastery,
a pioneer of its element, may have possibilities.
Personally, I like my [Goal]'s too much, and also
have a couple (Anbu Days) for back-up, so I probably
won't touch him in terms of serious constructed
play.
Limited: 3/5 Ambush, Mastery, and decent stats in a
format that really needs it, especially on a Common,
is OK in my book.
Unlimited (Const'd): 2/5 I don't think Mastery is
worth the lack of a +1 combat or the ability to
shove a ninja on whim during the EoJ.
Block: 1/5 See above, except for the fact that 8
Trigrams doesn't exist in Block, so he can't see
nearly as much play.
