Beastly Mage

Labyrinth

Today's card is a negation Jutsu. The requirement for this one is that the PRINTED entrance cost be of 2 or more. Pretty simple in that area. For two Wind or two Fire you can negate and discard a Jutsu being used. Once again, simplicity. Then comes the bonus: if that Jutsu has two or more specific symbols (like two Fire, two Water, or something like that), then the user of that Jutsu gets -2/-2 during the turn. That's a nice addition to a negation Jutsu. Pretty good in Limited, and in Constructed/Block as well. Try it and see!

Labyrinth

It's now the middle of the week Pojo faithful and today we have another review for you. Today's card is my favorite for the week by far. It is a handy jutsu that is catching a lot of tournament play, the all mighty Labyrinth. So dive into this spectacle and see what makes it so magical.

Labyrinth is an outstanding card. I love Labyrinth. David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly would agree. This jutsu from Will of Fire is catching more and more competitive play, and for good reason. Let's review what it does.

Labyrinth is a dual-element jutsu of fire and wind. Has a cost of either 2 wind chakra or 2 fire chakra. Requirements are a printed cost of 2 or more. It targets 1 jutsu being played. Now for the effect, negate and discard the target. Then, if the target's cost has 2 or more specific symbols, the target's user gets -2/-2 during the turn.

So now let's break this down. The cost is rather easy to pay. You are going to be playing either monowind, monofire, or the most common seen deck; fire/wind. By running one of these three decks, the chakra cost is easy to pay. To people saying what about medical or female decks, well, I consider those to be monowind. The requirement is understandable. Yes, I know you can't negate a jutsu on turn 0 or 1 with this like you can with Sharingan Eye. This is still the better negator. I would probably run this over Counter also, which sounds crazy to female players; but I feel this card is a little more solid. It has the same requirements turn count, you just dont need the female aspect. Now for the effect, it is a negation tool. It is better than Sharingan Eye and Visual Jutsu in my opinion because of the second ability. If that jutsu your opponent trys to cast has 2 or more specific symbols, that ninja gets -2/-2 for the turn. This will normally lead to you winning the victory, sometimes even an outstanding victory. Here is an example, your opponent sends out Kakashi Hatake (Boyhood) and cast 8 Trigrams. You respond with Labyrinth. 8 Trigrams is negated and discarded. Then, Kakashi gets -2/-2 because 8 Trigrams has a specific symbol cost of 2 fire chakra. Sounds good to me. It does more than Sharingan Eye and Visual Jutsu usually just doesn't get the job done.

This is just one example of why this card is seeing more play. This card, like Hinata Hyuga (Student), is one of many I saw in about 90% of the decks at Shonen Jump Championship Atlanta. So, going into the SJC season leading into Nationals, expect to be caught in the Labyrinth.

I hope you enjoyed this review

See you tomorrow Pojo faithful
