Beastly Mage
Sasuke Uchiha & Kakashi Hatake
Welcome to another week of reviews, Naruto fans!
Today's card is the new Sasuke/Kakashi Squad. This
is a GenCon promo, and a pretty good one in fact.
This one works well with decks that use the 1-/-1
coin strategy. When you put this Squad in play you
distribute 3 of those coins on up to 3 Ninjas. This
means that you can pick three Ninjas in the same way
you can pick just one to get all the coins. Not only
do the coins mean those Ninjas will lose 1/1, but
when this Squad is in play those Ninjas can't use
any Jutsus.
This Squad also has some impressive stats. At T5
having 9/4-4/1 is pretty good, along with 3 Mental
Power, Genjutsu Combat Attribute, and Sharingan Eye
help a lot. Note that this Squad is Fire/Lightning
rather than Fire/Water. The good thing about this
Squad is that it can be used even in a pure Fire
Deck, since there are still Block-Legal versions of
Sasuke that are Fire (and some are Genin too). Since
this is a Promo, you'll only see it in Block and
Unlimited formats. If you manage to get one, give it
a spin. You could be in for some good times.

Review for Monday

Sasuke Uchiha and Kakashi Hatake
[Warped Battlefield]
With GenCon more than a week over, we felt it was a
good opportunity to review the two new cards that we
got for playing in it this week. The first up is the
monster squad of Sasuke and Kakashi. I think
everyone has been expecting this squad for some
time, and we finally see it as a promo. The card has
monster stats for being a turn 5, but the cost is
that you have to give up your Sasuke and Kakashi
which can both have beastly effects. However, this
monster drops down on turn five and stops at least 3
of your opponent's ninja from playing jutsu cards.
If you've already put a few -1-1 coins around, then
even more of their field is locked down by this
card. In the current format, it's deadly. Your only
real protection is KNS or Dehydrating them as they
come into play. What's even worse about them is that
they are valid, so nothing short of total
annihilation of this ninja will allow you to play
jutsu. I expect this card to be used pretty
frequently in most decks, since both Kakashi and
Sasuke are easily splashed. If you didn't go to
GenCon, your best bet is to trade for one of these
puppies or hope to win it at the Q4 Chunins.
I wonder two things about this card: Why didn't it
get a water symbol? Why is that flavor text from an
event that happens way further than where we are in
the series with the card game?
Today’s card of the day is one of the GenCon Promos.
It is a Turn 5 squad with 9/4 heathly, and an awful
4/1 when injured. When put in play, you place 3
-1/-1 coins on any 3 ninjas. This effect is
excellent with Madara Uchiha from Set 21, which
would mean 3 teams cannot block Madara. Or if you
wanted to go with another route, you could use
Demon’s Eyes, which first lets you place a -1/-1
coin on any ninja, and then you remove all -1/-1
coins from your opponent’s ninja to draw the same
amount of cards. Then this squad has another effect,
which is any ninjas with -1/-1 coins cannot play
jutsus, which is great for controlling the game.
All around this is an awesome card for -1/-1 decks
or if you just wanted to splash it in.
