Beastly Mage
Orochimaru's Forbidden Jutsu
This is one Mission that has to be played well. It's
a three-turn permanent Mission. It gets one coin
whenever you discard a card from your hand by one of
your Ninja effects. During your Mission Phase, if
you have three or more coins on this Mission you get
to discard a card and draw another. But, if you have
five or more coins on this card at that moment you
get a Battle Reward. Remember that turn-limited
Missions lose a coin every turn, so this card has to
be played right or else you're wasting a mission. In
Water decks this card could work perfectly. Try it
and see!
Like yesterday's mission, today's card is one best
used for self-discarding water decks. Whenever you
discard a card from your hand due to an effect of a
ninja, you add another coin onto the mission (Unlike
yesterday's card, it's effect only gets triggered by
ninjas; if it did work for missions, this card could
use its other effect to add tokens since it discards
cards from your hand). The cards main effect is
triggered during your mission phase. Depending on
the amount of coins on the mission, which will start
at three, you can activate up to effects: draw 1,
discard 1, or win 1 Battle Reward. Getting this card
up to 5 is not terribly difficult in the right deck,
but maintaining it will be quite difficult
considering one token will be removed at the start
of each of your turns. If you can, however, this
card can be quite devastating, especially if you
have Hanzo on the field.
One interesting thing about this mission is how it
relates to some older cards in set 15, specifically
Orochimaru [Master Of Forbidden Jutsu] and Revival
of the dead. Orochimaru's effect changes the effect
text of Orochimaru's Forbidden Jutsu to "Put the
target in play". Since this card has no target, it
will have no effect. Orochimaru's effect was meant
to be used with the original Orochimaru's Forbidden
Jutsu, however, it was not reprinted, so the card
became useless. The other card, Revival of the Dead,
is actually now quite useful, unlike Orochimaru.
Revival put in play up to two discarded ninjas for
only 1 chakra, granted that the card used to pay for
it was either "Summoning Jutsu: Reanimation" or "Orochimaru's
Forbidden Jutsu". Like Orochimaru [MOFJ], this card
was useless since those twwo cards were not block
legal. Now that both cards are printed with new
effects, Revival can now be a usable card, albeit
limited. It might make fun deck, so you might want
to play around with it.
