Beastly Mage
Konan
Today's card is [Origami Angel]. This version of
Konan, which is the strongest version so far, has
some pretty impressive stats. Besides 2 Mental
Power, Ambush, 5/4 - 0/3 (worth the Hand Cost) it
also has a Hand Control-Related effect. As long as
your opponent has less cards in their hand than you
every Ninja opposing Konan's team gets -2/-2. For a
team this can be pretty brutal. Remember that the
totals add up, and sometimes a decrease like this
can make Outstanding Victories come up like crazy.
Too bad the effect isn't Valid, though it's still
good. In a Female Deck she'll fit in quite well,
given that she's a Wind Ninja (most Female Decks
have more Wind than Earth). Save for her not having
a Rank (which would only affect her in Unlimited) or
Void (which would make her Hand Cost more payable)
she's pretty good. Try it and see!

When Konan was first released in the card game,
everyone complained that she was under-powered for
being an Akatsuki member. Not anymore. Konan finally
has made it to the big leagues of heavy-hitting late
game ninjas with quite a nice debut. She's now 5/4
healthy which is pretty decent support and she also
has Ambush which greatly increases her playability
has a high drop. Her effect is a very powerful one,
in my opinion, because the Wind player should always
have the larger hand. Best case scenario, you're
dropping your opponent's team power down by 6. If
you think about it, Konan could be considered a 7/6
ninja since she will be decreasing at least one
ninja's power when she is opposed. the question is
whether she will be played over Sasori [Creating the
Masterpiece] or not. Although I do not think she is
better, she is definitely playable and a good
alternative to Sasori.
Limited: 3/5 A little harder to get her effect, but
devastating if you do
Unlimited: 2.75/5
Block: 3.5/5

[Origami Angel]
N-1329
At Pojo, we have received an interesting spread of
previews this week. Unfortunately, today is probably
my least favorite. It's another Konan! Will our
paper angel ever really see play in a meta format?
We have yet to see, and this Konan is no exception.
With an effect that is better suited to earth, Konan
is just lackluster at best. She's a turn 5 that can
potentially give your opponent's team a -6-6 as long
as you have more cards in hand. The thing is, how
often are you stockpiling cards in your hand on turn
5, even in wind? She's one of the few wind ninja
with ambush, so that's a plus, but she's still not
all that impressive. Even worse still, she's not
valid, so she becomes a target for Chidori,
Fireball, Lariat, etc., so that they can get their
team power back. She's competing with Kurenai for
the turn 5 slot, and Kurenai can swing a jutsu chain
in your favor. Even in the Kimono deck she'd be out
of place so I'm not even sure what to make of her,
if anything at all. Oh, here's and idea. You can
pretend to be Konan by flinging this card at your
opponents and giving them third degree paper cuts.
Match won.
Limited: 3/5 (A beatstick is still useful in a
draft.)
Unlimited: 1/5
Block: 1.5/5 (If this effect was printed on a turn 2
or 3 earth ninja, it might be useful. Oh well.)
