When a contest starts, if this card is in your bank,
you may discard it to choose one of your Basic
Neopets in that contest and replace it with an
Experienced Neopet of the same species from your
deck. Then shuffle your deck.

The obvious comparison to this card is the Rainbow
Paint Brush from the base set. But which one is
better? Most people tell me it's the Rainbow PB
because at least you have 2 points in your bank. I
contend that Island PB is just a touch better, and
I'll explain why:
Using Rainbow PB: You need to draw the PB, bank it,
and draw again to get your Exp pet out. Cost: 2
Draws. 1 Bank.
Using Island PB: You need to draw the PB, bank it,
and discard it to get your Exp pet out. Cost: 1
Draw. 1 Bank. 2 banked pts.
So, the question is if you'd spend 2 pts from your
bank to give you a draw? At the end of the game, the
two point difference may or may not matter. There
are a couple of other factors. Island Paint Brush
can be used any time a contest starts, giving you a
surprise advantage in a contest, gaining it an
additional bonus of a successful defend, or a
bank/draw. If you can bank 4 pts that way, it might
well be worth the sacrifice of 2 points.
In the end, the two cards are really well balanced
against each other. I like Island PB better because
it's a little faster and gives me that little
advantage of replacing the pet I want at the
beginning of any contest it's involved in.
For those who thought three rainbow paint brushes
weren't enough, a couple of these should satisfy
your Experienced Neopet seeking hunger.
Ratings:
Rainbow PB is a very useful card that can help just
about any deck. This card is no worse and perhaps a
touch better. I give it a 4.6 of 5

Sorry about my short
absence. I was up north camping. Well, more north
than where I am. It was a good time, of course, but
I am now back and reviewing cards! This week
continues with none other than the Island
Paintbrush!

What Neopet is complete without the Island
Paintbrush? With the Mystery Island expansion set, a
new type of card has been released that allows you
to discard an Item from your Bank, which yields
quite interesting results.
These include today's card, as well as a few select
others. Friday's card has a similar effect. But that
is for Friday, of course.
This is an Item card, and gives mediochre-at-best
stats of 2 in Magic and Intelligence. Its bank stat
is a lowly 2, which is something you definitely
won't miss through the use of its effect. As well,
Retribution will most likely slide right off of
this. Other bank-emptying cards, such as Ring of
Sloth, won't be able to be used as effectively,
since thise won't spend a lot of time in the bank.
While this Item exists in your bank, you can discard
it at the start of a contest in order to activate
the effect. You can then replace one of your Basic
Neopets in that contest with any Experienced Neopet
(of the same
species) in your deck. I tend to really like
"searchers", or cards that pull another type of card
from the deck. As it stands in the game, there are
mainly quite poor searchers, such as those that move
a card to the top of your deck. This one is quite a
gem, and deserves that Holofoil rarity.
You can use the Island Paintbrush during either your
turn or your opponent's turn. There is quite a bit
of versatility that comes with this. You can either
bring a more powerful Experienced Neopet to a
contest in order to exploit its effect (such as
Starry Cybunny or Grarrly Gladiator), or you can use
it during your opponent's turn in order to even some
odds.
4.5/5 - This is an incredibly high rating, and may
be a little *too* high, perhaps. However, at the
moment, this is about the best searching card. The
only downside to it is that it takes a bank to use
its effect. This could eventually turn into an
advantage for you, in the end.
