Faerie
Slingshot -- 4 / 5
I wish there was an equipment that could be played
with any Neopet, gave you a decent bonus to a couple
of your statistics, *and* gave you an almost
automatic contest-win whenever you play an item!
That would go in every deck! Oh, wait, there is one? |

Although we have a great
weapon for the CotD, even more important is that
the new set is released today!!! Unfortunately
I'll be spending the day halfway across the
state away from my favorite gaming stores.
Anyway, on with the reviews
Faerie Slingshot
Equipment | Weapon
Strength 1 | Agility - | Magic 2 |
Intelligence - | Bank 2
To play this, tap 1 of your Neopets.
Whenever you play an Item in a contest in any
arena, this Equipment gives +3 to all stats for
that contest.
5/234 Foil
This card is revered in many
areas as one of the best equips out there.
Why? Because you can boost the stats of any pet
instead of just the one it's equipped to.
Sounds great? Here's the problem. If you use
its effect too much, you're going to lose hand
control quickly. Almost every item you play in
a battle is one less card you can bank later.
Then again, there are always helpful cards like
Potion of Strength, Potion of Speed, Faerie
Dishwater, Essence of Brain, and Everlasting
Apple that bounce back if you win. If you lose,
you might rely on another equip that adds +2 to
Magic, Earth Faerie Leaves.
The main downfall of the
Faerie Slingshot is that it's bank value and
base stat boosts really suck. Only 1 in
Strength, and the Magic arena is probably the
least used battleground of the four. If you
aren't much of one for playing items in battles,
there really isn't much of any other reason to
use this card. When you consider that it takes
up a deck slot, costs a tap to use (unless
you're using cards like Scorchio Warrior, the
new Jeran, Meridell Knight, or risking Contest
of Champions), and then will cost an additional
card every time you want to use it's effect, you
might start to see how it's usefulness will
probably fade quickly. Even in the first set,
there were a few equips that added +4 to a
specific stat that might be better to go with.
Ratings:
It's effect is amazingly
useful for now, but the cost and base stats are
depressing. I can't go higher than a 3.6/5.

Faerie
Slingshot
One of the best cards in the game in my opinion.
This card could be equipped to a Neopet in any
arena, and ideally in Str or Mag, because you’ll get
the biggest boost then. If your stuck with high
bank-low power cards in your hand and can’t win a
contest, this card can give a huge bonus (compared
to what you would normally get), allowing you to
bank some of those high bank cards. Or, you can take
some of the high bonus cards like the neggs and have
this card to ensure victory in the contest.
Other good things about this card:
It’s an Equipment, so it stays around.
It doesn’t require a specific Faerie type, so you
can put it in any deck.
Decent permanent bonuses
Great art and flavor text
The only bad things about this card are its low
bank, but the only way I think you should bank this
card is if all three of your Neopets already have
one equipped, and the fact that it’s a Holofoil
Rare, which you really can’t do anything about,
other than buy a whole bunch of packs and hope to
find multiples.
If you have this card, play it. There is no real
downside.
Rating: 5 out of 5
See you Wednesday when we review a very interesting
villain.

A lot of people like the Faerie Slingshot, but I
don’t know why. I think there is some combo I’m
not seeing or something, but I do know one combo
using this item. It involves using the infamous
“boomerang potions” (Potion of Speed, Potion of
Strength, Faerie Dishwater, and Essence of
Brain). Obviously an incredible boost from both
the potion (which one depends on what arena
you’re using the Slingshot in) and the
Slingshot’s special effect will surely give you
victory in a contest, which means you’ll get
your potion back. Another combo also involves
using Aisha
Myraid, but I think
that doesn’t work very well. It also gives off
a little stat boost, but that’s just to sweeten
the deal.
I’d give this card a 4. It’s an excellent card,
if you know how to use it.
