Wow! This is a good card! Although you might
want to use Snarling Totem over this, it pretty
much makes up for it by rarity (Uncommon). The
only downside is that you have to bank this card
first, and you can only use it on your turn.
Therefore, you might want to bank this card
early in the game.
This card gets a 3.8/5. This is a poor man’s
Snarling Totem, but it’s still good.

69/100 MI Uncommon
Today's review, Wooden Kougra Totem, wraps up our totem week of reviews. On the surface, Wooden Kougra Totem seems very useful, allowing you to win any contest you want, even when your opponent rolls a 6. But, you can only use it on your turn, and why waste 2 points in your bank to win a contest and bank 4, when you could have banked a 4-point card to begin with?
Don't get totally discouraged, there are a couple of worthy uses for this card. You'll find that there are a good number of cards in Neopets that need a specific pet or type of pet to win a contest to activate an effect. If you would otherwise have problems winning with that pet, this card could be your answer. Imagine having your Kougra Trooper take on a couple Light rivals with this card in your bank. No matter what you or your opponent rolls, your opponent will lose his or her Light Neopets. Still, in most cases, I'd rather bank a 4-pointer or a different effect card instead.
You can also use it a bit offensively against your opponent by forcing wins against certain petpets that are discarded or returned to hand when the pet it is attached to loses (Noil, Zombie Moltenore, Robot Noil). This could help regain some field advantage, or just help stall the game a bit. But, the chances of each opponent using those cards won't be very good in most areas.
Ratings:
I don't see a lot of use for this card. It would be better if it could be used on your opponent's turn, but that's not the case. So, given it's limited scope and usefullness, I sadly give it a 2.4 of 5.

Mystery Island 69/100 Uncommon
Rating: 4.0
The Wooden Kougra Totem is the third of four Totems
released in the Mystery Island expansion, and it's a
powerful one! It's bankable, it's playable as an
item in a contest, and it's ability is excellent.
Like the other Totems, the Wooden Kougra Totem is
low on stats and bank point value, but once again,
this Item isn't normally going to be used in a
contest or be in your bank for long.
Although Totems do best in decks built around their
abilities and the ability of the Kougra
Archaeologist, the ability to win a contest no
matter what, even if your opponent rolls a six is
helpful in any deck. This will annhilate Villains
easily, clearing the way for you to bank or draw,
and if used with the Kougra Archaeologist, you can
do it again and again.
The downside of this card is that it can only be
used on your turn, so you're not going to be
stopping your opponent from banking or drawing.
Another point to consider is timing. If you're
playing a Kougra Archaeologist/Totem deck, you're
going to spend a lot of time banking Totems, then
discarding them, then tapping the Archaeologist to
get the Totems back, and banking them again. This
can be very time consuming, and can slow you down,
causing problems for you against someone running a
fast paced, 4 point banking deck.
