Pikari @Ignister – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Ignister week happening, and we’re starting it off with Pikari @Ignister.

Like all Ignister Main Deck monsters, Pikari has low ATK, but is a Level 4, LIGHT and Cyberse, so it has some good support behind it and as a Level 4 make some good Rank 4’s. You want to see Pikari in your hand if you don’t draw the Island in your opening hand, because that is the card that makes @Ignister go. The level changing ability allows for easier Xyz and Synchro Summoning that this deck can do, even if it makes the other monster a Level 4 to match Pikari. Love Fusion can be a great go second card if your opponent has a Link Monster for you to use as a Fusion Material, otherwise you could serarch the Ritual Spell for @Ignister and get your Ritual Summon if you have the cards. This archetype swarms by activating the Field Spell over and over again in the same turn, so getting it is a must and that is what Pikari does.

Master Rule 5 makes this deck better because, like decks that summon different kinds of monsters from the Extra Deck, they no longer are locked into the Extra Monster Zone. It is best to go second because you can build a better board and hurt your opponent if they use a Link Monster as well.

We have now come to the @Ignister archetype, which is going to be interesting as they’re the owners of the only Link-6 in the game. We start off the week with one of the more important monsters, Pikari @Ignister.

Pikari is a Level 4 LIGHT Cyberse with 1200 ATK and 600 DEF. Fairly low stats on Level 4, LIGHT is good to complete the Attributes in this archetype, and Cyberse is well supported throughout VRAINS. Upon Normal or Special Summon, you can search for any A.I. Spell/Trap from the Deck. Fairly good effect here with some great options like A.I.dle Reborn and Ignister A.I.Land to search and extend your plays. There’s several different A.I. cards. The second effect lets you target an @Ignister you control and make its Level become 4 for the turn. This is a simple effect, and it’s nice to have in an archetype that wants to use all Extra Deck mechanics that aren’t Pendulum. It immediately lets you summon the Rank 4 of the archetype, and @Ignisters have many ways to keep spamming monsters. Each effect of Pikari is a hard once per turn, which is perfectly fine. It’s an important piece for the archetype, especially searching their very important Field Spell. It’s an easy 3 of.

Pikari @Ignister

   This card is bland, but that doesn’t mean it is inherently bad. It will improve as more of its targets are released in the TCG.

   So where is this card best served? The @Ignister archetype is best used as a supplement to other Cyberse Archetypes, and this card is no exception. This card searches after it is Summoned (Special or Normal) for an A.I. Spell or Trap card. The A.I. S/Ts are pretty versatile, so that is a solid way to grab exactly what you need for a situation. The downside is that some of the A.I. Trap cards really do work best when your opponent doesn’t know you have it (A.I. Shadow is a great example of this).

   After using the search effect, you can easily change another @Ignister’s level to 4, which means you can easily XYZ, Ritual or Synchro Summon. I have played a few builds with @Ignisters to test this card out, and while I was never wowed by Pikari, I did appreciate that it could set off some solid plays.

   The card is nicely balanced with a HOPT. That is always appreciated.

   The design of this card suffers the same issue as the rest of the archetype. It is a shape with a symbol displayed on a bland background. It has an unpleasant name that is designed to follow Japanese sound effects (pikari is used in manga when something sparkles – an English alternative would be something like “Ting@Ignister” ). It doesn’t translate well because kana can be used easier for sound effects.

   This card gets 2/5 from me. It isn’t a bad card, but it isn’t going to meet its full potential for a while. If you run @Ignisters, you can run this card, but it isn’t absolutely necessary.
