Julius Caesar
Schooner. Broadsides Attack.
With new guns and Haraden at the helm, the crew of
the Julius Caesar have declared that they will
become the new flagship of the American fleet.
Schooners are cool looking and a descent bit faster
by comparison of size than square rigged ships. The
added speed also coupled with a free come-about move
at the end makes it a pretty good ability, but not
game breaking.
Broadside is a wonderful ability that I have grown
to love. My fleet circles around broadside with the
Titan, Sir Christopher Myngs, Administror Scott
Bratley, and Captain Percival Blake. Blake has the
Broadside and captain abilities, Titan has lvl 2
cannons (5 of them) and a free move roll, Myngs has
the double move roll, and Bratley helps me afford
all this. Broadside on the Titan has the ability to
sink any ship with the right roll, and most ships
without a good roll at all. But I digress.
The broadside ability is what makes this ship neat.
The ability for a 50/50 shot at doing 4 shots worth
of damage in one shot makes for an intersting
dynamic. But as you know, not all ships can be
judged by their hulls.
14 points. *sigh* Alas the clencher. She is
massively over costed (as are most broadside ability
cards). S+L movement is common for 3 mast ships,
especially for schooners. 4 Cargo is not that great,
but again, common for this size ship. 3 long rang
cannons (2 3-rank, and 1 2-rank) are nice indeed and
a plus that is needed with so many minuses, but it
still does not bring this ship into main-play
status.
REVIEW:
Points: 1/5 - 14 points on ANYTHING had better be
worth it (American or not).
Ability: Schooner - 2/5, Broadside - 4/5, Average:
3/5 - Broadside is a game winning ability on the
right ship, but just not here.
Collectibility: 2/5 - as a common, its easy to find,
but not much else other than the name make it
valuable as a trade item.
OVERALL: 2/5 - A nifty ship with good intentions,
just falling short of usefullness.
Until next time, You will always remember this as
the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.

Flavor Text:
With new guns and Haraden at the helm, the crew of
the Julius Caesar have declared that they will
become the new flagship of the American fleet.
It would be pretty hard for this
particular ship to actually accomplish what it’s
flavor text promises. In fact, I don’t see any way
in heck to make this little 3 masted schooner a
flagship of ANY fleet, let alone the Americans, when
you’ve got ‘Old Ironsides’ on your side.
No this ship just doesn’t do it for
me. Not that it’s a schooner, that doesn’t bother
me. The guns are even OK, if not spectacular. No,
I’m not real fond of the Broadsides attack. I think
it’s too expensive for what you get, which is an all
or nothing proposition. Sure, when it works,
Broadsides are awesome. When they fail, they are
spectacularly bad.
My Ratings
Playability 2.5 of 5
Collectability 2 of 5
Next time – Wednesday is
Crewfers day– I have no idea what to look at
right now, but by Wednesday, we will have some
clue. Hopefully.
