Name: Harbinger

Card #s PS-03 (1st), #003
(Unl)
Rarity: Rare
Type: Ship
Cost: 17 Points
Masts: 5
Cannons: 2L, 2S, 2S, 2S, 2L
Cargo: 5
Movement: 1L
Faction: Pirate
Ability – “You
own any derelict this ship explores; both ships
become docked at your home island.”
Flavor Text: “The very sight of the
black sails of Blackheart's flagship has caused
ships to strike their colors and surrender.”
Quite possibly the best 5 master that
the Pirate faction has, if not the best 5 master in
the game. The Harbinger has one of those
magical abilities that allows you to instantly
transport any derelict ship back to your home
island. Nifty kean. And it’s not too expensive
either, despite being a hefty 17 points, she’s not
even the most expensive Pirate ship, that honor goes
to the Deliverance. Double trouble. If
there’s a drawback it’s the 1L movement, but even
that’s par for the course for a 5 master. Add a
sac-captain, helmsman, at least one oarsman and two
other crew, and she’s a behemoth to be reckoned
with. I’d be using her in my own Pirate fleets
instead of the Revenant except she has eluded
my grasp thus far.
Harbinger Closed Auction Review:
8-23-05
# of Closed Auctions: 2
High sale amount: $8.35
Low sale amount: $5.51
Average sale amount: $7.93
Honestly I expected higher sales,
though she’s been around for three sets now, and
everyone who wants one has one (except me that is).
She’s great trade bait (and like I said, I NEED
ONE). There’s also a couple closed lots that have
her and other pieces, but I don’t include those in
auction reviews. If you buy from another online
source or a card store, expect to pay more than $10.
My Ratings
Playability 5 of 5
Collectability 4.5 of 5
ALMOST a Five Star figure.
ALMOST. The only thing that brought her down
was the lack of auctions. It’s really hard to
get an average value for a piece when there is a
lack of data to look at.
Here’s some interesting Pirate trivia
I learned watching Weird U.S.A. on the
History Channel last night. Did you know that
Edward Teach, the infamous Blackbeard, only ruled
the high seas for a whopping two years? He had
built up such a massive reputation that he barely
had to fight to win a vessel either. When he DID
come up against the Royal Navy in 1715, his ship was
trashed, and he was shot six times, stabbed several
times, and finally succumbed to a throat slashing.
His head was severed and placed on a pike to warn
other Pirates as to what their fate would be if they
crossed the Royal Navy. By the way, do you know
where Blackbeard’s head is now? Neither does anyone
else! Here’s a nifty website to check out while
you’re waiting with baited breath for our next
review. http://www.ocracoke-nc.com/blackbeard/
Next Week: It’s our newest
COTDer’s turn to pick, and he’s got some
interesting pieces scheduled. I’ll let him do
the reveal though. I’ll be seeing YOU on the
high seas. Aaaargh.
