For the low, low cost of 0 points I can add 5 points
to my build total?
Sounds good. Wait, this thing has the Ransom
keyword? That makes it a little less
desirable. Ransom means that this thing becomes a
treasure worth 5 gold if it gets captured, or
automatically adds 1 gold to the home island of the
player
who eliminates this crew. I don't think adding 1
gold is that big a deal, but becoming 5 gold can
potentially be annoying if your opponent plays with
forts.
I don't think there's too much to say about this
guy...I guess if you really want to add another crew
or two, you can play with this guy, but be careful
not
to lose him. If he gave more than 5 points, he'd be
a lot more useful (but also probably be broken).

Captain
Percival Blake
Immediately we are drawn to the 7 point cost. 7
points for a crew member is very steep, so he'd
better have some really awesome abilities right?
Well, he
has the standard Captain ability (move and shoot),
which is always nice to have in addition to another
ability as that is one less cargo spot you are
taking
up (not to mention it reduces your vulnerability to
Mermaids). So, for an extra 4 points, what do we
get? Broadsides Attack. That's it. I don't like
Broadsides Attack myself, because if you miss,
you're boned. Because I dislike Broadsides Attack,
and other than that you're just getting the Captain
ability, I'd definitely pass on this guy because
there's better choices.

Administror Scott Bratley
Limit. Ransom. Place this crew face up during setup.
You may build your fleet using 5 more points than
the game's build total. This crew cannot leave this
ship unless captured or eliminated.
Scott Bratley is Governor Lynch's secret to keeping
the Empire's interests prospering in the Caribbean.
Administrator Bratley is solely responsible for the
smooth working of the fleet and the thriving trade,
and seems able to summon resources out of thin air.
Now this is a VERY interesting crew and one that I
see no downside to using.
Sure you cannot move him once he is on a ship and
you can only hold one of him, but the cost of a
cargo space you get 5 extra points to build your
fleet. Yeah he is a weasley sly British looking kind
of gent, but WHO CARES!! They may as well stated his
ability as "The cost of one of those over costed,
great ability cards we put out, can be dropped in
cost by 5".
I use this guy in my fleet on the Titan. I use him
to drop the price of Percival Blake to 2 points. So
I get the Captain Ability, the best in the game, and
the Broadside ability to do a WHOPPING 6 shots of
damage in one turn, and with the Titan I get
possibly another try at it if I fail, PLUS I put
Myngs and helmsman for ANOTHER possible shot if I
miss. *sigh* I love that ship.
*snaps back to reality and wipes drool from his
keyboard*
Anyway! I could not use Blake unless I had Bratley.
He is great on ANY fleet running British ships. The
card does not specify that the points have to be
spent on British pieces.
REVIEW:
Points: 5/5 - You cannot go ANY lower than that, and
his cost is more like
-5 because he grants you 5 extra points.
Ability: 5/5 - 5 extra points in a game based on
point management is game ending.
Collectibility: 3/5 - A common and limited means hes
easy to get, but once you get one, you won't need
another, unless you build 2 fleets.
OVERALL: 4.25/5 - If you have a British ship, USE
HIM!
Captain
Percival Blake
Broadsides Attack. This ship may move and shoot
using the same move action.
Captain Blake is a strict disciplinarian who uses
the lash to urge his gun crews to perfect their
skills. His excessive use of the lash may, in fact,
be creating more pirates from his crew then he is
catching. Percival Blake sees himself as Temple's
rival suitor for Countess Doone's attentions, but
while she takes his gifts, she does not take him
seriously.
Ah, my captain. Very pricey, but great if you can
afford him. At 7 points he is one of THE most
expensive crew in the game, but he is British and
goes well with Administrator Scott Bratley reducing
his cost to 2. Less than a normal captain and a
broadside to boot. Now if you do not have Bratley,
this guy is WAY over costed. A captain cost 3
points, meaning the broadside is costing 4 points.
Uh uh. I dun think so.
He does however fit into many fleet schemes (as the
one I have described above).
REVIEW:
Points: 1/5 w/o Bratley; 5/5 w/Bratley. Bratley
makes all the difference here.
Ability: 4/5 w/o Bratley; 5/5 w/Bratley. Again, his
ability is great, but made even better on the same
fleet as Bratley.
Collectibily: 4/5 - A rare captain with a side story
concerning others in the game, plus a nifty combo
with Bratley make him pretty high in my eyes.
OVERALL:
W/O Bratley: 3/5; W/Bratley: 4.7/5
Until next time, what is the average wing velocity
of a laiden swallow?
