Type: Ship
Cost: 15 Points

Ability –
“Galley. As part of a move action,
this ship may initiate a boarding party against a
ship up to S away from her, without having to ram.
The boarded ship may not use any boarding bonuses.
Flavor Text – “The Knights of Malta
recruit French Corsairs to crew Le St. Denis so that
they can fight the Barbary Corsairs on equal
footing.”
This ship is basically the French
version of “Silent Death” that we reviewed here:
http://www.pojo.com/pirates/CotD/2005/Nov/15.shtml.
Only she costs 3 more built points, and err…she has
two more masts with craptacular guns. If it seems
like we’re picking dogs for the COTD, you’re not
mistaken. We are, and that’s indicative of the
entire set so far. I haven’t seen a single piece
that I’m overjoyed to get, though some of the crew
was long overdue (can you say more Marines?). About
all this particular ship is good for is boarding,
because those guns won’t do much good. Sure, she’s
fast, but she doesn’t hold enough cargo to be a
treasure runner.
Oh and she’s a rare, so that makes
her harder to pull, and slightly more valuable than
your standard ship. Not much, but slightly.

Wow, what a bargain! You can get a
five…no…wait, the rares in this set are all FOUR
masters, so…four, four masted ship for under TWO
bucks. But wait, you could do that before this
set. How disappointing.
My Ratings:
Playability 2 of 5
Collectability 2.5 of 5
Next Time – We’ll double up on the
French crew. Boy, in some contexts that could sound
sleazy… |
