Pirates of the Revolution – Le Soleil
Royale #048
Name: Le Soleil Royale
Set: POR
Card #s: 048
Type: Ship
Cost: 13 Points
Masts: 5
Cannons: 2S, 3L, 3L, 3L, 2S
Cargo: 5
Movement: 1L
Faction: French
Ability: “Once
per turn when this ship hits an enemy ship, also
eliminate one crew from that ship.”
Flavor Text: “Captain DeZay has
assigned each of his cannonneers a specific color of
cannonball, so that they get the credit they deserve
in battle.”
After not appearing in the original
set, the French were introduced in Crimson Coast,
and really received a boost in Revolution. This
ship, while not being terribly overwhelming in
ability or statistics, is indiciative of the overall
fleet of the French: decently fast, moderately
armed, and definitely undercosted. As your main
gunboat, this ship does leave a little to be
desired, and as a treasure hauler, her cargo hold is
slightly small, but she’ll work for either. In 40
point games, she’s definitely an intermediate ship,
but at 13 points, you’ll be awfully hard pressed to
put her in your fleet.
Of course, if you’re going up against
a crew heavy opponent, then her ability more than
makes up for her statistical shortcomings, and with
the right crew on board, she can really pound at
your enemies.

Low Amount: $1.76
Average Amount $2.91
Wow, for under three bucks you can
grab yourself a decent ship! I would pounce on this
one if I needed more French, which, err…I don’t at
the moment. Still, she’s the right sort of ship
that you may need in a larger than standard game.
In a 40 point game you’ll have a hard time fitting
her in.
My Ratings
Playability 3 of 5
Collectability 3 of 5
Next time – Twofer Wednesdays
continued with a couple of interesting French
crew, one of whom may be related to the infamous
Cardinal Richelieu. Avast!

Le Soliel Royal
Once per turn when this ship hits an enemy ship, also eliminate one crew from that ship.
Capitain DeZay has assigned each of his cannonneers a specific color of cannonball, so that they get the credit they deserve in battle.
To start off French Week, we have "Le Soliel Royal".
It is a rare ship from Revolution.
Points:
13 points is a pretty average rating for a ship.
Point rating: 7/10.
Mast Rating: 5/5.
Cannons:
Mast 1 Cannon 2S
Mast 2 Cannon 3L
Mast 3 Cannon 3L
Mast 4 Cannon 3L
Mast 5 Cannon 2S
Decent numbers to roll, and L range. Good.
Cannon Rating: 8/10
Movement:
L. French are definantly speedy, and this is no different. L will get you right where you need to be, and in good time.
Movement Rating: 3.5/5
Cargo:
This ship has 5 cargo. Great for when you happen upon an island, but also good for carrying any crew this may need.
Cargo Rating: 8/10
Ability:
Hit it and kill a crew. Simple enough. Sadly, this ability will not be very useful, because many ships only carry 1/2 crew, and the people crazy enough to do something like run 5 crew on a ship (-_-) are the ones you want to use Mermaid on.
Ability Rating: 6/10
Total Rating: 3.75/5

Le
Soliel Royale POR# 48
Once per turn when this ship hits an enemy ship,
also eliminate one crew from that ship.
This week is all about the French; a week a feel
somewhat proud of having mostly a French ancestry.
This isn’t the type of ship you would first think of
as a war ship with only a 13 point cost a two 2s and
three 3L cannons. These are fairly good stats don’t
get me wrong, but there are definitely better five
mastered ships in terms of firepower; but they also
cost more. The basic movement rate of L and 5 cargo
space is nice and average; moreover, it’s the effect
of which I love. Being able to take down two stones
with one hit is very nice. A warship without a
captain or a treasure ship without an explorer is
really at a disadvantage. Make sure to play mermaid
before attacking with this ship though. This is also
one of my main concerns depending on your metagame.
With the uprising of mermaids people are playing
less crew; however, this ship can still take out
valuable and essential crew in competitive games.
Constructed: 4.5/5
Limited 4/5 Less good crew here to kill off, but
again 5 masted ships are rare and it’s firepower
will be average with other ships.

Le
Soleil Royal-Revolution-French-13pts.
To start a COTD week, we have Le Soleil Royal: a
french ship from the revolution set. For 13 points
you get a 5-master, L speed, three L3 connons and
two S2 ones, and It has 5 cargo space so you will
have room to place crew on the ship.
Cargo: 5 cargo for a 5 masted ship is average. Most
of those spots will be used for crew. The main
purpose of this ship is to be a ship hunter, so
don't worry about filling up the whole ship in crew.
3.5/5
Cannons: three 3L cannons, two 2S cannons. The two S
are on the ends. This ship has adequate cannons for
it's points and capacity, so it gets a 3.5/5
Speed: The big L. This ship, being a hunter, will
need a helmsman to burst it's speed.
2.75/5
Effect: Being a hunter the effect is great for the
ship. Use this ship to hunt 4-5 masters not little
mice. Use a captain for sure on this ship so you can
remove some crew early with it's effect. 3.5/5
Points: 13 points for a 5 master is amazing! you
could put another large ship and some events in your
fleet because the cost is so little. 4.5/5
Overall it gets a 3.75/5
Crew to use: captain, helmsman, Vicomte jules de
cissey, Captain aratiel, any crew speeding this ship
up.
