Flavor Text: “Limit. Ransom. Place this crew face up
during setup. You may build your fleet using 5 more
points than the game's build total. This crew cannot
leave this ship unless captured or eliminated.
After two nearly fatal "accidents" at home (possibly
arranged by her husband's children, all older than
her), the lovely Contessa Anita decided that it
might be prudent to take a long trip until her
husband passes away and she inherits everything. She
has been seen in the company of both Caballero Luys
de Alva and the pirate Jack Hawkins.”
So far, each faction, with the exception of
Americans, has a crewmember with the exact same
ability, which I guess is parity. Anita is the
Spanish version, and as with all the characters with
this ability, you take some bad with some good. 5
extra build points is nice, but the Ransom keyword
means that if your opponent captures her she becomes
a treasure worth 5 points. If eliminated from the
game, she becomes a treasure worth 1 point
The official WizKids rulings on these two keywords
are:
“Limit Keyword: The keyword "Limit" refers to
the exact ability that it accompanies, not the named
card. In other words, you can only have one card
with Ransom in your fleet.”
“Ransom Keyword: Crew with this keyword are
permanent crew of their ship & can only be
transferred or eliminated by an enemy. Friendly
abilities cannot be used to modify this ability!”
Basically, you can have only ONE crew in your fleet
with the +5 points ability, and only ONE crew in
your fleet with the Ransom keyword. Playing these
types of crew work very well, as long as you don’t
get captured.
Pirates Commons usually sell for between 50 cents
and $2.00. These types of characters tend to skew on
the higher end, but they’re still commons.
My Ratings:
Playability 3.5 of 5
Collectability 2 of 5.
Kind of a reverse from week 1 – we’ll look at a
Spanish Gunboat on Friday, just for kicks and
giggles.

Review
This character has the limit keyword this means that
it can only appear in a fleet once. The ransom
keyword means that it is worth five gold if it is
captured by your opponent or if it is killed it is
worth an extra one gold I think. The best part about
this character is that it costs zero points and
allows you to have 5 points of crew added before you
start the game making it highly usable for the more
expensive ships to get in to the game.

This is a free crew ! Alright you can save up on
resources you will later use to purchase ships and
other crew.
Point Value Rating: 10/10

This Crew is certainly made to give you an increase
in options. For one thing it's free and now it gives
you an additional 5 points !
Dependeing on the type of game you're playing this
effect could give you a big advantage over your
opponent(s) . If you're playing a 30 point game you
are at a 16.666% advantage! Not to mention the
options given to you for crew and ships.
A single ship like ROVER costs a mere 2 points ,
with this effect you can basically get 2 ship
advantage to swarm the seas with your weanie rush.
Effect/Ability Rating: 10/10
TOTAL RATING: 10/10 not a bad at all
ART rating: 7/10 meh...I've seen better looking
pieces of cardboard

Now the ability to add a whole whopping 5 points to
your fleet is definitely
something I’d like to have on my fleet. This ability
is without a doubt one of the best in the game; that
is not the question. The question is in fact if her
side effects outweigh her effect. I would say they
do not. Limit is definitely required on something so
powerful, but not really negative. Only being able
to leave the ship through being captured or
eliminated means u can’t drop her off on an island,
but if you could then her effect would be a
freebee. In my opinion the Ransom ability isn’t a
huge deal if you make sure
to put her on a well defended ship (or your
battleship). Chances are that if
she gets captured that the ship and ultimately the
game is lost, so why not put onboard.
An alternative to this is that you could also put
her on a 2 point vessel that lurks around your home
island for protection and odds are fairly high that
she won’t be the target of your enemy’s desire. Then
the remaining three points can be used for other
crew, or better yet another mermaid card.
If only the Spanish had a card similar to Captain
Blackheart (if they do then please excuse me) she
would get a perfect rating. This is why I much
rather prefer the old Hag over her; put her on your
team, add five points, and add another action. What
more can you ask for?
Constructed 4/5, 5/5 once the Spanish Captain
Blackheart is released Limited/Sealed 4.5/5,
anything that gives leeway or super cool abilities
in limited play, like adding 5 points will
definitely assist victory.

This crew is very powerful. Sometimes you need
another crew or 2, or a small 5 point ship. The
downside is that it is a ransom so you could be
giving your opponent an extra 5 treasure. Make sure
you have a strong boat with a captain or helmsman to
run away or attack if need be. Joaquin Vega would be
good on board the same ship.
Contessa Anita Amore scores a 4/5
