Pirates of the Barbary Coast –
Commodore Steven Decatur #094
Name: Commodore Steven Decatur
Set: PBC
Card #: 094
Rarity: Rare
Type: Crew
Cost: 7 Points
Faction: American
Link: Intrepid
Ability -
“This ship’s
crew cannot be eliminated unless she sinks.
Once per turn, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, this ship may
be given an extra action”
Flavor Text:
“Commander
of the American forces on the Barbary Coast, Decatur
has vowed that no ship shall be taken by pirates. He
has even gone to the extreme of sinking his own
ships rather than allow them to be captured.”
The majority of crew costing 7 points
or more are Marines. How TWO American crew got the
same ability (though the wording is reversed) for
the same cost in consecutive sets is beyond me.
Yes, that’s right, Decatur has the EXACT same
ability and point cost as John Paul Jones.
Whoop-de-do.

Pirates of the Barbary Coast –
Brent Rice #098
Name: Brent
Rice
Set: PBC
Card #: 98
Cost: 4
Faction: American
Rarity: Common
Ability -
“This
ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any
non-American ship or fort.
Flavor Text –
“No one knows when Rice signed on
with the American Navy; he’s just always been there.
Although he has no rank, his stories of ship
engagements are so exact, and his knowledge of naval
strategy so advanced, even Preble consults with
him.”
Now this is a pretty useful ability,
especially since it’s non-faction specific. Sure, 4
points is a little high, but that ability is so
useful, you’d have to consider placing this ugly cur
on your gunship.
My Ratings:
Playability 4 of 5
Collectability 2.5 of 5
Friday – Mondays are always big
ships, Wednesdays are Crew-Fers and Friday’s are
little ships. So guess what, a little ship…
