Pirates of the Revolution – Paradis de la Mer #065
Name: Paradis de la Mer
Set: Pirates of the Revolution
Card #: 065
Rarity: Common
Gold Cost: 4
Cannons: 2L, 2L, 3L, 3L, 4L
Faction: French
Ability: “The first time this fort is shot at each
turn, roll a d6. The result is the number of times
this fort must be hit that turn before any of its
cannons can be eliminated.”
Flavor Text: “The Paradise of the Sea is now home to
second-generation French settlers, who will fight to
the death to keep their island safe from outsiders.”
Now this, this is a fort. Sure, her cannons aren’t
that great, but that ability? Damn, that’s special.
Roll well, and you’ll never lose a single flag. Not
much else to say about this fort. I’ve played with
forts now, and I don’t find them quite as exciting
as I thought I might. They’re useful, but if they
get destroyed (and it does happen) you’re basically
screwed.
My Ratings:
Playability 4 of 5
Collectability 2 of 5.
Next Week: Something very different I assure you.

Paradis de la Mer
Another fort. This one costs you 4 gold, which is a
medium price to pay. You get five cannons - a pair
of 2L, a pair of 3L, and a 4L. The 4L hurts and the
3L cannons are "okay". If you're looking for a
strong set of cannons look elsewhere. So let's look
at the ability. The first time your opponent shoots
at this each turn, you get to roll a d6, and the
result is the number of times this sucker has to be
successfully hit before they can start blowing away
your cannons. At the very *least* they have to
successfully hit once before they can go to work on
your cannons, and if you can roll better than 1,
then that's just gravy. This obviously makes the
fort hard to kill, which is nice for your
investment. Overall, despite the mediocre cannons,
you get a pretty decent ability that can mess up
your opponent's strategy.
Rating: 3/5

A
fine morning, afternoon or whatever it happens to be
for you, to you all.
I'm Topnwe and I'm here to add my two cents on these
pieces, I tend to try and fight people in this game
more often than go after gold, so my reviews might
be biased towards the fighters.
Paradis de La Mer- Ah, the Paradiese of the Sea.
I've heard it called one of the best forts in the
game, up there with The Devil's Maw. It's ability is
something that people have problems with though, it
means that the result of the dice roll is how many
times you can be hit before you start losing flags,
once you have been hit that many time you lose one
flag for every hit, like you normally would. I heard
someone trying to play it off that you rolled the
dice every time someone started firing on the fort.
Still, it's one of the meanest abilities I've seen
any fort have. And with these cannons, it's not
something people want to just meander up to. The 4
isn't so good, but the others will be doing plenty
of damage. Only person I play
against has found this thing, and he is jumping at
the chance to use it.
5/5, if you play the french and use forts, get a
hold of one of these!
Remember the game is meant to be fun, not
historically accurate, so those of you complaining
about the accuracy, go read a book!
