Ability: Junk. This ship gets +1 to her boarding
rolls.
One of five great big 6-masted junks released in
the new South China Seas expansion, Grand Path
is amongst the most expensive - but there again,
she does have 6 guns, and they all have a 2-1
chance of hitting home.
They are also unimpeded by her own masts (by
virtue of the Junk keyword), so the only real
downside is that they are all short range –
which means the chances of getting them all in
range on a target, are pretty slim unless you
pull right alongside. Also, the boarding ability
is okay but not great, since boarding tends to
be a very small part of most people’s games.
Fundamentally, Pirates CSG is a shooting and
movement game, not a game of hand to hand
combat.
Her cargo pretty good – and just as well, since
you’d want to load this ship up with some
additional nasties, as well as a move and shoot
captain, and a helmsman as well to boost her
single L move.
But as a big gunship, Grand Path is going to
bust the sides of a few traditional square
riggers, and I’m looking forward to using her
and her sister ships, once I actually get hold
of them!
