Hi, I'm Cadet-Captain Mike. I discovered Pirates shortly after Revolution came out, and I've been going strong ever since. I've never played a 100-point game or been to a tournament; I try to speak for "the little guy" who plays 30-40-point games with friends. Other reviewers can cover the current collectors' prices on eBay better than I can. My goal is to explain how to best use a ship or crew, in the context of a whole fleet with other ships and crew.

This ship is definitely a gold runner, with the emphasis on "runner." Its cannons have a 67% chance of scoring one hit in battle, so don't waste a Captain on it. It can't board well, either. But the Ghost Ship ability, when used properly, can be a killer.

I've played multiple games against this ship, and I've seen it zip straight through terrain, other ships, even islands in its quest for gold. Give it a Helmsman and you've got a lightning mover that can't be stopped by ramming, and she still has room for 3 treasure to be sent home by S+S+S+S Express. That speed also lets you get to any wild island long before anyone else can get there, so take the good stuff and leave the 1-gold coins for the enemy.

A nice bonus, which WizKids probably didn't plan when Revolution was released, is that ghost ships can totally frustrate two newer ship types that rely on ramming and boarding, Barbary galleys and sea monsters. If you expect to face either of these, Hades' Flame will make a good choice for your fleet.

That special ability isn't all-powerful, though. A ghost ship can't be rammed or boarded, but it can be shot like any other ship. Also, crew like Nemesio Diaz and ships like the El Paso (cancel one ship or crew's special ability per turn) were tailor-made for thwarting ships like this. If your enemy tends to go for a fighting strategy, this might not be the best ship for you.

Is 13 points too much to pay for a gold runner with average cargo? Hades' Flame is best used in games with lots of terrain. Keep her as far away from fighting ships as you can, using her ability to take shortcuts no other ship can take, and her speed to fly home with the goodies.

Also, if you HAVE to have a ghost ship for your Pirates fleet, you may be better served by the Amity (Crimson Coast #009). She has the same speed and cargo capacity, she costs one point less, and she will last longer if shot at because she carries three masts (all with worthless 5s cannons, but who cares?).
