Hannah

Today we start off WildWill's American week. First up is the 2-masted Revolution ship, the Hannah. 16 points is very costly for a 2-master. It only has 2 cargo, and a 4L and 4S cannon. So its not to be used as eithier a treasure hauler or for battle. What else is there you ask?

This ship is what I would call a "support ship". Its speed (one of the best out there, L+L) and its effect could decide a game in a bigger point fleet. Unless your using a bunch of 2-5 point ships in your fleet with this; I wouldn't even consider using this ship in a less than 50 point game. This ship becomes better the more cannons that are in your fleet the better this ship gets. The 16 points do let you use more expensive crew aboard though.

3.5/5 (for heavy ship fleets) for playability
2/5 for collectability.

Aethereal Hannah

Here we have a 2-master with a pair of 4S cannons. Those are pretty useless unless you beef them up with some kind of crew, and even then said crew is better spent on improving 2 or 3 rank cannons. Oh yeah, and only two cargo slots doesn't help at all. The L+L move is really sweet, and the ability is very good too: any allied ship within S of this one gets +1 to its shots. That is a strong ability...then we get to this thing's point cost. 16 points. That's a lot of points, especially for a 2-master. Sorry, but I'm really not willing to spend
16 points on a 2-master that can't fight back if it gets assaulted, and will die in 1 turn to any worthy gunship. I understand why it's costed more than the average 2-master, but this thing's cost is way too high.

Ability – Friendly ships within S of this ship get +1 to their cannon rolls
Hmmm. Hannah… Nice name, nice looking ship, nice speed (although never forget that L+L is not as good as S+S+S) – lousy guns and cargo capacity though. And abysmal value for the points cost.
Somewhere deep in the arcane (and one suspects fictitious) recesses of Wizkids’ fabled ‘system’ which supposedly informs the allocation of points to playing pieces, there exists the axiom that ‘Friendly ships within S of this ship get +1 to their cannon rolls’ is a really ace, killer ability, which justifies an extortionate points cost. Several other ships share this ability, and all are absurdly overpriced.
So – 16 points for Hannah, just to gain +1 on the cannon rolls of your gunships (if you can manouevre Hannah into exactly the right place at the right time of course, which is easier said than done).

Alternatively you could spend 4 points on Brent Rice and add +1 to all your cannon rolls anyway. And he can be right aboard your gunship – so no difficult juggling of relative positions involved.
Or better still, for those 16 points, you could simply forget adding +1 to the cannon rolls of your other gunships, and just take a whole new 5 masted gunship instead! Like the United States for instance, or the excellent Bonhomme Richard (both at 15 points).
Yes - it's another shining example of the built-in absurdities of Wizkids so-called points system. Completely barmy.
My rating 1/5 – if this ship was 8 points, maybe she’d see some action, although even then it's debateable. As it is, she’s not worth the styrene she's printed on.
