Batavian Bat
Sorry for this review. The bat has a cool name, but
is mediocre at best. Maybe there is a crew
named batman coming up in a new set that will have a
link with this. Anyway, this isn't a really good
ship. But what would you expect for a common. 4
cannons aren't really good. Only one is L. Only
2 cargo space, and only a mediorcre speed. There are
better ships out there.

Batavian Bat
Back to an older ship, we have the Batavian Bat.
Nine points gets you three masts (not too bad), S+S
movement (average), 2 cargo spaces (crap), the
ability to dodge L-range cannons (nice), and two 4S
cannons and one 4L cannon. Oh, wait, rank 4 cannons?
Never mind. Those are not going to hit very often at
all, and the chance of scoring hits with only two of
those cannons are about 22%. I don't like those
odds.
Everything about this ship screams average, except
for the number of masts (9 points for three masts is
good) and the ability, which isn't the greatest
thing on the planet but it does allow it to avoid
getting nailed by all the guns from most gunships.

Batavian Bat
Ability: long range cannon cannot hit this ship.
Points cost 9
Cargo 2
Cannon 4S, 4L, 4S
Move S+S
The Batavian Bat is one of the many ships in the
game which rarely if ever sees action.
This is because she is slightly less good than
average – which is putting it kindly.
Three x 4 rank guns mean that on average, you will
hit with only one shot per round of shooting – and
that’s assuming you can bring all three guns to
bear.
2 cargo slots is nothing short of paltry. No use
whatsoever.
And S+S movement is slightly the wrong side of
average too, especially for a smallish ship.
9 points is a miserably average cost, but certainly
not cheap.
So what’s she for? Not hauling treasure, and not a
gunship for sure. Her only real advantage is her
ability. The ‘cannot be hit by long range guns’ is a
stock ability within the game. Quite a few ships
have it. It means that many of the bigger gunships
(which tend to predominantly have long range guns)
cannot actually strike at her. This is in fact,
quite a decent ability - although in a typical,
multi-player 40 or 50 point game (the sort I
generally play), you will find that short range guns
are just as plentiful on the tabletop as long range
guns, and nearly all of them will be a darned sight
better than the Batavian Bat’s trio of 4-rank
cannon!
So all in all – one for the bottom of the box. There
is an infinite array of pirate ships with better
stats for this kind of point cost.
My rating – 2/5. Barely.
