Bonny Kate
Seven points gets you two masts, S+L movement, two
cargo spaces, and a 2S and a 3L cannon. English crew
can also work on this ship. I've never been a big
fan of the "[nation] crew can use their abilities on
this ship" ships and this isn't changing my mind.
The ship itself is decently priced but I'd just
rather play an English ship and use my English crew
on that. Only two cargo spaces doesn't give you much
to work with as far as crew goes, which makes the
ability even worse. S+L movement is solid and the
cannons are nice, but the ability isn't that useful,
making this just a decent ship for 7 points and you
can find better than that.

Bonny Kate
Ability: English crew may use their abilities on
this ship
Points cost 7
Guns 2S, 3L
Movement S+L
Cargo 2
‘The Bonny Kate is a welcoming berth to any British
lad who will take an oath against all kings.’
And you may lay to that.
Now I have a soft spot for the Bonny Kate. Maybe
it’s because I am a British lad, but I think that
brief line of flavour text is one of the neatest and
most elegant in the entire game.
She’s a trim enough little barque too. Cargo is
pretty measly - but she has a good base move at S+L,
and a pair of useful guns: slightly better than
average (although it’s a shame the 2-rank is a
shorty). But for only 7 points, she’s not a bad bet.
Unfortunately, her ability is rendered obsolete once
you have amassed a sizeable collection, since you
will quickly collect plenty of pirate crew who
replicate all the abilities possessed by English
crew (and exceed them, since the English don't have
a sacrifice captain).
In fact, I’m hard pressed to think of an English
crew member with an ability that the pirates don’t
have for themselves. (Maybe Commodore Temple –
although the pirates have several ships with that
derelict collecting ability built in.)
So… If you’re new to the game and don’t have that
many pirate crew, her ability might just come in
useful – but apart from that, it’s something of
nothing.
Still quite a reasonable little terrier though -
although if you’re going to use her offensively, the
requirement to ship a captain aboard means that
she’s up to 10 points, which isn’t quite so
attractive.
My rating – 3/5.

Bonnie Kate
Ability: English crew may use their abilities on
this ship
Points : 7
Cargo : 2
Masts 2: 2s, 3L
Movement: 1s 1L
The bonnie Kate is an average ship. It has good
movement
but can't be used as a cargo runner due to its cargo
space of 2.
It has good cannons so its most effiecent role is
one of escort.
Its low cost for good movement and pretty good
cannons make it a
reasonable pick. I'd have trouble putting a captain
on this ship in
any game less than 50pts but if you can spare the
three points he'd
boost the Bonnie Kates power. This ship would make a
good "Specialist"
carrier because of it's 2s cannon. Firepot is always
my favorite for
an escort aiding a gunship, but if you are escorting
a cargo ship
a chainshot specialist would be a better pick. It's
ability is quite useless
unless you are low on pirate crew because you can't
really fit any special
combination of English and Pirate crew on this ship.
Over all I'd give it a 3/5.
