Keyword: Longship.
Ability: This ship may dock at an enemy home island and load up to two treasures. If able, she must leave on your next turn.

This ship's sails carry the mark of her namesake, an uncontrollable creature from Norse mythology. The ship itself, however, isn't that fierce. Yes, she has the doubled cannons of a longship, so her broadside can do more harm than most conventional two-masted ships. But her cannons aren't that great, and she shares the weakness of all longships
- she can dish out the damage, but can't take it. One hit removes two shots from her broadside, and she gets left derelict just as easily as any two-master.

Her cargo and ability suggest home-island pilfering, and gold-grabbing in general. Her speed is a problem here; she has to add a Helmsman. A Captain would be useful, so she can take those four shots at will, and that leaves only two cargo. It also runs her sail-away price up to 21 points, which is horrible for a two-masted ship.

What can you do with Fenrir? She could leave the Captain home and grab some gold, then pick up the skipper for a larcenous trip to somebody else's home port. Such voyages are always dangerous; make sure you maneuver to take the first shot if the enemy challenges you, or you won't get a second shot. Or you can feint toward a home port, force the enemy's fighters out of position to head you off, then go someplace else for gold. You've dislocated the enemy's plans, and your own options are still wide open.

But no matter what you do, I can't see how she can earn her point cost.
Two-masted ships in other fleets with a roughly similar ability (remove two masts with each hit) cost 10-12 points, often with better cannons. I cannot call this ship a good value.

Sumpbeast Fenrir

Having had a chance to use viking longships in a few games (with other slow ships from the set) I may have softened my stance against them. They are slow, but the double shooting abillity combined with a captain is fairly powerful. The Fenrir is good example of a typical longship. She is slow but has two long range guns (3L and 4L). Her hold is not large but her steal
2 gold ability screams for the ship to go roving.

You'll need a helmsman for that though. Within the set Fenrir seems to be a good ship, otherwise she's just decent and expensive 2/5.
