Name: Le Courageux
Card: RV #051 (Uncommon)
Points: 10
Faction: France
Masts: 2 (rating: 2 / 5)
Cargo: 4 (rating: 3 / 5)
Moves: S+L (rating: 4 / 5)
Guns : 2S,3L (rating: 3.5 / 5)
Hit %: 117 (S), 50 (L)
Link : Guy LaPlante
Ability: This ship ignores the first hit she takes
each turn as long as she has all of her masts.
I hate this ship! And the reason I hate her is
because she's such a good ship, and my gaming
adversaries always use her, and she always boots my
keester into orbit.
The cannons are as good as you'll find on a two-masted
ship; neither an ignore-L-cannons ship nor a
can't-be-hit-in-S-range ship can hide. Speed and
cargo are both quite good. The ability can be deadly
when used well.
For instance, this is one of those ships that can
get into a bow-to-bow double pin and win, because
the other ship can't hit her more than once, and it
takes two hits to bring down her first mast. And you
get all this for a very good price.
Guy LaPlante, the linked crew, is a dashing-looking
swordsman who just isn't that great. +1 on boarding
isn't much, and the bonus against forts is useless
unless you fight one of the few admirals who uses
forts. I'd find some other use for his five points.
Le Courageux makes a fine little gunship. Or you can
use her for gold; her stats and point cost are good
for it. Or you can just put a Captain on her and
send her to sea; she can pick up gold one turn and
blast enemies the next. Not many ships give you that
kind of flexibility. And my enemies know it, oh yes
they do. I must grudgingly give Le Courageux the
highest marks, because I can't think of a way to
make her any more dangerous than she is.
