Ability: This ship’s base move becomes S when she
reaches her cargo limit.
The Jolly Mon (whose name comes from a children's
book by Jimmy Buffett) looks pretty close to
useless. One cargo means she can't carry much, and
if she carries anything at all, she'll be drop-dead
slow with no room for a Helmsman to assist. Her
point cost of 1 means she can't carry any crew
except an Explorer or Oarsman, which are both
pointless if there's no room for anything else on
board.
Ahhh, but there's the rub. Who ever heard of a ship
that costs the same as an Oarsman? If she goes out
and brings back any treasure at all, she's paid for
herself, probably several times over. She's no
fighter and she's no boarder; she's a lowball
bottom-feeder of a gold ship. And for one lousy
point, you get a lot more than you pay for. Only the
Divers event can bring in more treasure for such a
low cost.
