Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Swift
Card: PotC #040 (Common)
Points: 9
Faction: Pirates
Masts: 2
Cargo: 4
Moves: L
Guns : 2S, 3S
Hit %: 117 (S), 0 (L)
Keyword: Galley.
Ability: This ship can dock and explore a wild
island using the same move action.
The Swift looks to me like a Le Bon Marin wannabe.
That little French one-master might be the best gold
ship in the game, with good cargo, high speed, the
built-in Explorer, and a low price. This galley has
the cargo and the ability, but not the speed or the
price tag. The result is okay, but not thrilling.
Her cannons are good enough to use her as a small
fighter if you wanted to. But there are plenty of
ships that can do a better job in that role, often
for fewer points.
The question is, do you spend the extra points for a
Helmsman and lose a cargo space in exchange for much
higher speed? Or do you send her out with just her L
move and hope that her ability makes up the
difference?
Or do you skip this ship altogether and use
something that can run gold without compromise, like
the Dragon? The Swift isn't bad at all, but there
are better gold ships out there.
