Yesterday's ship was the big Spanish fighter.
Today's ship is the little Spanish fighter. They'd
make a mean team.
La Reconquistador is almost identical to the USS
Quigley, which I raved about when I reviewed her.
The Spaniard has one less cargo space and costs one
point less. The cargo is no issue for a ship this
size; a Captain and a Helmsman are all she needs.
That makes her a fine value.
Her role is obviously that of secondary fighter. Her
cannons are as good as they come, and her ability
can hurt the biggest ship in existence. Unlike many
secondary fighters, this one should stay close to
her big gunship, rather than chase down enemy gold
ships, because gold ships usually don't have crew on
board, and this ship is all about "servicing the
targets" on the enemy's quarterdeck. Knock off a
crew or two, and your foe's fighter won't be so
tough. If he turns on the Reconquistador, he ignores
your big fighter and takes more damage. A
big-ship/small-ship combo like this can tag-team
even the biggest ship until it's a mastless wreck.
A bit more speed would have put this little ship in
5-point country.
Even so, she gets high marks for being a nasty
little addition to your fleet for a bargain-basement
price.
