Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls.
The "Jewel of the Sun" is a typical early-game
Spaniard - average speed and big cargo. In fact, her
cargo is just plain huge. You could visit three
typical wild islands in one voyage, carry away
everything worth carrying, and put yourself in the
lead before you even have to make a second cruise.
Of course, her average speed means those wild
islands may be picked over by the time you get to
them. I'd put both a Helmsman and an Explorer on
her; that still leaves 6 cargo free, and now you can
burn holes in the ocean as you round up the golden
goodies.
Can she fight? Not really; 4-rank cannons aren't up
to snuff. If you must use her as a battleship, I
recommend Luis Zuan, the combination captain and
world-hater, to give her guns a 50/50 chance. Her
ability means she'll win most of her boarding
actions, if boarding is your style.
But there are better fighters out there. There
aren't many other ships that can bring home a king's
ransom in one cruise. This is as close to the
ultimate gold ship as you're likely to find, for a
very reasonable price.
