Name: Nancy Nox
Card: MI #033 (Uncommon)
Points: 12
Faction: Pirates
Masts: 3 (rating: 3 / 5)
Cargo: 5 (rating: 3.5 / 5)
Moves: S (rating: 1 / 5)
Guns : 2S,3S,4S (rating: 3 / 5)
Hit %: 150 (S), 0 (L)
Link : "Cannonball" Gallows
Ability: If this ship wins a boarding party, she may
take as much treasure from the other ship as she
wants, up to her available cargo space.
The Nancy Nox got some free PR by being one of the
first Mysterious Islands ships to be previewed in
WizKids' Sneak Peeks. Is she any good?
Well...
Her drop-dead slow speed is a major strike against
her, especially among a swift faction like the
Pirates. Her cannons' odds average out to the same
as three 3-rank cannons, which is the same as what
the Longshanks gives you for half the price. Her
cargo is above average, which is good, since you
absolutely have to put some crew on her. A Helmsman
is mandatory, and you need a Captain if you want to
go fighting. You could skip the Captain and go
gold-hunting, but why pay 12 points plus a Helmsman
for 4 free cargo at S+S speed, when you can buy the
Banshee's Cry for 3 points and get the same cargo at
L+L speed? No, this is not a gold ship.
What about her ability? Even with the two crew
mentioned above, you still have 3 cargo free for
stolen treasure - not bad. The problem is that most
gold ships could drag their anchors and still outrun
the Nancy Nox. That makes it hard for her to catch
someone, ram, and board to swipe all their goodies.
To succeed, she'd probably have to work in concert
with a fighting ship.
The link to "Cannonball" Gallows (build your fleet
with 5 more points) doesn't do the ship any good,
unless you use the extra points to buy the Nox's
crew. It's just a way to get "Cannonball" into the
game without using a cargo space, which is nice.
Boarding is a hard way for a pirate to make a
living, since the enemy will always give you his
worst treasure. This ship can make boarding actions
profitable, but she's too slow to make it happen
often. Granted, average ship speeds have dropped in
the past few Pirates series, but S speed is still
close to useless. Twelve points, plus five for crew,
is a bit steep for a ship like this, especially
since she's barely adequate as a fighter. I can't
give the Nancy Nox very good marks, not when when
the Pirates have better ships for lower point costs.

Nancy Nox
Here's a good ship if your
regular opponent likes to ram treasure-laden gold
runners into your ships. For
12 points Nancy Nox
gets two useful but short range cannons, 3 masts, a
better than average cargo hold but a really slow
speed. I don't see any use for this ship. She can't
really run for treasure (more of a
walk) and her guns are
not great for fighting. Her ability is cool if you
get the chance to use it but that seems to me like
that would be a rare thing. Her cargo hold is only
average after you put a much needed helmsan or speed
increaser. Perhaps WizKids meant for this ship to
collect gold from the mercenary ships?
One thing I forgot is
the link on this ship. For no points and no cargo
space you could load the crew "Cannonball" Gallows
to get an extra 5 points to your total.
Nancy Nox is worth 1/5
to me. I wouldn't field this ship at all.
