When we think of five-masted ships, we think of
cannons and battle.
That's what the big ships are all about, right?
Examine the rating numbers below, and you'll see
that the Grand Barnacle is above average in just
about any role.
Her speed is higher, and her cargo bigger, than most
ships in the PotC release. 13 points is a bit high
for a gold ship, but it's quite low for a five-masted
anything. Her cannons aren't world-class, but the
small fighters that usually prey on gold ships
wouldn't have a prayer against something this big.
The special ability may be helpful, or it may not,
depending on what role you envision for this ship.
The Pirates are pretty well set for most crew types
already.
If I were using the Grand Barnacle, I'd use one of
the other factions'
combo crew, like the English Hermione Gold (captain
and world-hater) or France's Robert Surcouf (captain
and S-board), and a Helmsman. I'd make one fast
cruise without the combo crew, to bring back as much
gold as possible. Then I'd load the fighting crew,
run for the islands that are being fought over,
crush any opposition, and take the best gold home.
It would be fun, and probably very effective.
