I hereby proclaim this to be PotC English 3-Masted
Ships Week! We'll start with the only one of the
bunch that appeared in the movies.
In Dead Man's Chest, the Edinburgh Trader was not a
man-o'war, but a cargo ship. Her good cargo and
so-so cannons reflect this, as does her special
ability (which is a pun on her name). Her speed is a
bit above the norm, which is always good.
If you just use her for gold, she needs no crew at
all to be effective, although you could add a
Helmsman, Bootstrap Bill, or a similar crew to speed
her up. She'd definitely need that extra +S move if
you want to swap treasures with an unwilling enemy
gold ship. Her three masts don't make her a fighter,
but a gold ship that's a little bit harder to sink
than average. You could fight her if you had to, but
she'd require the services of Admiral Norrington for
the move/shoot and, more importantly, the cannon
bonus. But if you had a choice, there are many ships
where Norrington could serve more effectively. No,
this is a gold ship, and a pretty good one. If her
point cost was a bit lower, she'd be a superb one.
