Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: HMS Interceptor
Card: CA #029 (Uncommon)
Points: 14
Faction: English
Masts: 4
Cargo: 4
Moves: L
Guns : 3S, 3L, 3L, 3S
Hit %: 200 (S), 100 (L)
Link : Admiral James Norrington
Ability: This ship gets +L to her base move if she
has all of her masts.
I have to hand it to WizKids - they gave this ship a
realistic ability without making up new rules for
her. L+L definitely makes the Interceptor a speed
demon, the fastest four-masted ship in the game.
She's a bit too expensive for running gold, so
battle is her role; her cannons are a bit above
average, so she'll fight well. She can also board
well if you're so inclined. Just don't take any
damage unless it's for a good cause, because losing
one mast will strip away half your speed.
What's this "Admiral" James Norrington stuff? He was
a commodore. He's a worthwhile crew if you mean to
use the Interceptor for fighting (move/shoot and
world-hater), but if you're going to use the
Dauntless at the same time, you'll probably want
Norrington there instead. If you don't use him on
this ship, she'll need some kind of Captain crew.
The Gentleman would be a good choice, with
move/shoot and reroll. Add Henry Ducie Chads for a
SAT and a +1 against Pirates, and this colorful
four-master could be flying all over the map at
L+L+L+L speed with two deadly shoot actions per turn
against Sparrow, Barbossa, and friends.
That's if you don't mind spending 25 points on ships
and crew.
The Interceptor's price is in keeping with her
talents, which makes her a fair value. If this is a
small English ship, I can't wait to see what the
Dauntless is like.
