This ship just screams "Average" from every gunport.
Her guns lack accuracy for a fighter, her cargo is
too small for a gold runner, and she has too few
masts for a boarder. Her ability can be handy for a
gunship, but with only one L-range cannon, she won't
be in a position to shoot through another ship very
often.
To make this ship worthwhile, she needs a Captain, a
Helmsman, and either a reroller like David 'Bones'
Wiley or a world-hater like Bruce Grey. But the
9-point cost means you can't have all four. And if I
was going to spend 8-9 points on crew, I'd do it on
a ship with more and better cannons, to maximize
that crew's effectiveness.
There are worse ships out there than the Bloody
Throne. There are also better ships. Save your
points for the better ones.
Other ships do not block this ship's line of fire.
The second ship here on Bloody week is a mess of
terrible stats with a mismatched ablility. It's just
BAD. Even its name inspires sick jokes (which I'll
avoid, grudgingly.) What in the world could you do
with this thing?
Run treasure? Sure, if you don't care about winning
or becoming the subject of ridicule at your local
venue.
Combo ship/secondary gunship? With those cannons?
Primary gunship? LOL
You won't be using this ship in a standard game if
you have a choice, so lets move on.
It's ability, while not unique, is pretty fun. It
allows the Bloody Throne to hide behind another ship
and take potshots (get it, POT shots? that joke
happened accidently, I swear.) at the enemy while
avoiding return fire.
This would actually be good, if this ship had rank 2
or even 3 cannons.
Especially if they were long range. However, perhaps
we can do something interesting with this ship in a
higher point game.
Now in let's say, a 100 or 200 point game, you could
load this ship with a Captain and a world hater,
keep it behind your main gunships and score some
extra hits, while avoiding return fire yourself. 16
points is kind of steep for this, but it might be
fun. As an alternative, you could put a couple of
oarsman, a shipwright and a helmsman on it, then
keep it behind as before, but use it more like a
hospital/support ship. Your gunship just get
derelicted? Sac captain run out of fodder? Move in
the Bloody Throne and transfer crew to it. If
whatever ship derlicted your gunship is still in the
area, it is probably wounded and you've now added
another threat - 3 rank 4 cannons should still score
one hit per turn, and your opponent will have to
sink the derelict before he can hit the Bloody
Throne. Again, it's not the greatest strategy or use
of points in the world, but it could be fun.
So lets see where we're at:
The Good: The Bloody Throne is an LE, so it wont
jump out a pack you bought and ambush you with its
suckiness. Could be fun in a high point game.
The Bad: The cost, the cannons, the name, the
mismatched ability, the movment speed, the name...
