The "Bloody Sword" is a rather unexceptional little
ship. The one thing she has going for her is her low
price, which means that whatever you use her for,
she's likely to pay for herself. The trouble is that
there isn't much she's good at. Cannons, cargo, and
speed are all below average, and there are so few
Cursed crew that her ability won't see much action.
What can she do? I wouldn't use her for gold; even
if you have only 7 points left to spend, you'd be a
lot better off with Le Bon Marin or L'Intrepide,
which carry more cargo, move faster, and cost less.
She'd make a fair secondary or tertiary fighter with
a Captain, and perhaps a Firepot Specialist to both
hurt and distract the enemy. But the same seven
points would buy better ships like L'Afrique, Le
Republicain, or Le Coeur de Lion. Or you could put
the Sargasso Nightmare on her and let her follow a
sea monster around, giving it an extra move when
needed.
Or you could check her off on your checklist, leave
her in your storage box, and spend your points on
something better. That's what I'd do.

Okay, honestly, before I saw this ship in the review
list, I had never heard of it before...
there's probably a reason for that (there is, it's
not that good)
Basically we're looking at La Toussaint L'Ouverture
with a different ability and sail arrangement if
that means anything (it doesn't, La Toussaint
L'Ouverture is a pretty mediocre ship too)
To get right to the heart of the matter, I don't see
anyone ever using this ship unless they wanted to
put Sargasso Nightmare on a French ship and didn't
want to pay the
5 points for
Jordan Dumas - I really can't see anything else
going on here (then again, I did first lay eyes upon
this ship yesterday, so what do I know)
Ignoring the ability, the L'Epee Sanglante is too
slow to run treasure and too small to be a primary
gunship, so about all you can do with it is put a
Capt/Helm on it and use it as a support gunship -
it's not going to be great at that either - for
about 7 points you can find ships with similar stats
and a useful ability (this thing is an LE, if this
is in your collection, I'm thinking there are better
choices)
So, what's the final rating? Well, it is kind of
similar to the Bloody Throne in that it's an LE, so
you don't have to worry about pulling it out of a
pack, and it IS reasonably costed with decent
cannons. Plus, there could be some sort of fun
strategy involved with this ship, it's obviously a
specialty piece. However, unlike the Bloody Throne,
you could actually use this ship in a regular fleet
if you wanted (but I would advise against it)
Final Call: a solid 2 (Sargasso Nightmare riding the
L'Epee Sanglante helping to push Carcharodon into a
battle where they destroy the Deliverance? THAT
would be a 5)

anyone miss me? Probably not, but my reviews are
best of the line.

This ship reminds me of the OE Juggernaut for some
reason...
Anyway, lets start with the ability, Cargo, and
cannons. Most of these are average on there own, but
together they are above average. You A) on smaller
ships, you could ram and board, get a boarding
bonus, and take a treasure. Then blow the helpless
thing into submission.
But what if the opponent fights? Then B) Catch up
with them, rotate on your stern and blow them into
submission with your so-so cannons. Add a world
Hater with your required Captain and Helsmen, and
you got yourself a Main fighter with good speed and
cannons, but it's costly. At 22 points, I could get
a lot of Piraty-things, like Deliverance with
Crimson Angel with a... Oarmen? : / .
So, the only thing that sets this Bloody boat back
is the bad buck and the bashful base-speed. 3.5 / 5
