This ship is a one-masted galley, but she doesn't
get the Galley keyword. Strange. Two cargo and one
average cannon are nothing to write home about, but
for five points, you can't go too far wrong. S+S
speed is a little better than most ships can do
these days, so using her as a gold ship with
leftover points from your fighting fleet could work.
Alternately, you could put the Sargasso Nightmare on
her. The English sea monster, Lusca, suffers from
drop-dead slow speed, which Mr.
Sargasso can fix, and the Blackgate is fast enough
to keep up with a sped-up Lusca for a turn or two.
This little ship might be just the ticket if you're
a die-hard English player who wants to get in on
some sea-monster action.
Finally, you could put a Captain on her (and maybe a
Firepotter if you can afford one) and use her to
harass enemy gold ships, or at least the small ones.
The absence of the Galley keyword is a blessing in
this role; you can ram a 2- or 3-masted ship,
usually knock down a mast, and then fire your lone
cannon with a 50/50 chance of finishing him off.
But don't pick on anything with more than 2 masts
unless the enemy's guns are all 5-rank. One-masted
ships don't do well when they get shot at.
