All right, a jackal isn't a fox. But they're close
enough that the Jackal's Teeth can round out our
week of fox-themed ships.
Like most Corsairs, this one is fast and has decent
cargo. She makes a good gold ship if you don't mind
overpaying - you could buy the Griffin instead, and
get the same speed and cargo for less than half the
cost.
Her guns are on the mediocre side, which is also a
common Corsair trait. But her cannons aren't meant
to sink or derelict the enemy, but to soften him up
for boarding. Four masts, a boarding bonus, plenty
of speed and cargo, and the Galley keyword tell you
that this ship is made for looting ships at sea.
The only problem here is that boarding is a hard way
to make a living.
Assuming you win the boarding action, the enemy
chooses whether to lose a crew or a treasure, and
any treasures he throws your way will be the worst
he's got. You can ram and board again and hope for
something better, if the enemy doesn't get home
first, and if his gunship doesn't chase you away.
So give the Jackal's Teeth a Captain and send her
out in search of enemy gold ships. She can hold her
own against small fighters if she has to.
You'll still have three empty cargo to fill with
stolen goods, and you'll have the satisfaction that
every good pirate gets from taking someone else's
gold. Unlike most ships with boarding bonuses, this
one has what it takes to make the most of it.
