Masts: 3
Cargo: 3
Moves: S+S
Guns : 3S,3S,3S
Hit %: 150 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: Scorpion. This ship gets +1 to her boarding
rolls.
This ship does a little better than yesterday's
scorpion ship, for two
reasons: it's faster and it's cheaper. Who can argue
with that?
She carries no L-range cannons, but since a ship
like this will usually be in close conflict anyway,
that isn't a huge penalty. Her ability is a good one
for such a ship, and will probably be used often.
Give her a Captain and Helmsman, and turn her loose
on enemy gold ships (she won't last long in combat
against big gunships). It's too bad she doesn't have
more cargo space to hold treasures won in boarding
actions.
Still, she isn't a bad ship. Fifteen points for
three masts is a bit steep, but not hideously bad.
You'll have to choose your adversaries with care,
but if you do, the Scythe may cut a broad swathe
through your enemies' fleets.
For everything the Pestilence wanted to be, the
Scythe does a much better job at it. She gets a more
useful ability, +1 to her boarding rolls, in
addition to her Scorpion keyword.
She has an S+S base move, so she'll have good luck
in catching some ships, especially if you find her a
helmsman.
Scythe's cannons are about equal to Pestilence's;
Scythe has three 3S, so what she lacks in range vs.
Pestilence she makes up for in close-range accuracy.
She has three cargo spaces, but she ought to be able
to fill them well. Alternatively, you could fill
some of these spaces with crew killers and send the
Scythe after some crew-laden warriors.
For 15 points, you get more than you do for the
Pestilence's 17 points. While the Scythe isn't a
perfect boat (more cargo might be nice) she is a
good boat.
I give the Scythe a 3.5/5.

Scythe Cursed 15 points 3 masts 3 cargo S+S 3S 3S 3S Scorpion. This ship
gets +1 to boarding rolls.
The average Scorpion ship, comin' right up. A
legitimate amount of cargo; we tend to forget that
Scorpion ships are mere three masters. Adequate
speed... Fair cannons to go nicely with its all
around decent stats. Its ability? Nothing to rejoice
about. Helpful if you're a fan of boarding, however
most players are not. Finally, the price: 15 points?
A little much for what you get, but having a giant
claw that shreds opponents without even rolling a
die is nice.
All in all, not a bad addition to the new Cursed
toys, but I don't see it getting too much playing
time considering there are better ships for the job.
