Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Barnacle (Pirates)
Card: PC #006 (Rare)
Points: 12
Masts: 1
Cargo: 4
Moves: S+L
Guns : 3L
Hit %: 50 (S), 50 (L)
Ability: L-range cannons can’t hit
this ship.
This week, we're looking at some
more ships from the PotC release. The Barnacle is a
nice little (emphasis on "little") gold ship that
could find a home in any Pirate fleet.
S+L speed is a wonderful thing,
especially since it's much harder to
find than it used to be. Four
cargo is also a fine thing. Her defensive ability
and her slightly above-average cannon could deceive
people into using her as a small fighter, but don't
be fooled -- one-masted ships aren't meant to be
fighters. One ram and they're done. No, this ship is
a wild-island raider, using her ability as emergency
protection in case an enemy ship gets the drop on
her.
This ship has one real problem,
and that's her cost. For the same 12 points, you
could use the RV Neptune's Hoard with the same
speed, one more cargo, four masts to resist damage
and shoot back, and the island treasure-swap
ability. And any good Pirates fan knows about all
the fast, low-priced gold ships you could get for
half the Barnacle's cost, or less. If this is the
only Pirate gold ship you own, she'll serve you
well, but if you have any collection at all, you're
sure to have something that will do the job for
less.
Goldship rating: 4.2 / 5
Gun Ship rating: 2.7 / 5
Boarding rating: 2.3 / 5
Value for points: 2.8 / 5

Barnacle
After a week's vacation, we're going back to the
Carribean.
The Barnacle is a little one-mast boat that's said
to be Jack Sparrow's first ship. How does it fare?
Well, it has one mast, so it's not a heavyweight
fighter despite its decent 3L cannon.
The Barnacle's real strength is that it makes a good
treasure ship. It has a speedy L+S move, has four
spaces for cargo, and is immune to L-range guns. A
helmsman would be helpful, but the only crew the
Barnacle needs is an Explorer.
The Barnacle's only flaws are its small size and its
cost, 12 points. She's a good ship, but she's a
little pricey unless you don't have any better gold
runners.
I give the Barnacle a 3/5.

Hi everyone, welcome to the "Worst
Set Ever" Week...err...Pirates of the Caribbean
Week. I always seem to mix the two up...heh...funny
how that happens.
Barnacle, 12 points, Pirate
Masts: 1
Cargo: 4
Speed: S+L
Cannon: 3L
Abilities: L range cannons can't
hit this ship.
Flavor Text: This small fishing
vessel was the first ship Jack Sparrow captained.
Well whoop-dee-doo, good for you
Jack. I can see why you don't use this ship anymore.
First
of all, it's way overpriced. 12 points for 1 mast?
Yeah...no.
Buy yourself the Rev. Neptune's
Hoard for the same price. You get 1 more cargo, and
3 more masts. It seems that a lot of ships that
can't be hit by L range cannons are pretty
overpriced. Or is it just me? Or, pay 6 points (half
of this vessel's cost) and get the PotSM Snipe,
which also can't be hit by L range cannons. I'm
sorry, but this ship is just terrible. It became
even more terrible with the release of RotF and F&S,
where, for 8 points, you could get the Bazana. With
F&S, you could get the Enfant Terrible, or the HMS
Cygnet.
