Cadet-Captain Mike

Name: Fantasia (Pirates)

Card: PC #088 (Super Rare)

Points: 11

Masts: 1

Cargo: 2

Moves: L

Guns : 2S

Hit %: 67 (S), 0 (L)

Ability: Friendly ships within S of this ship get +1 to their cannon rolls.

The fluff text calls this "a ship of pure magic that will sail for only the pure of heart." You'd think that would rule out most Pirates, but they made her a Pirate ship anyway. Go figure.

This one-master's appearance is straight out of the "Sorceror's Apprentice" segment of the Disney movie "Fantasia," evidence of the deal WizKids made with Disney to get the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

I hate the look of it, but that's a personal preference. But no one can argue that L speed, one mast, and 2 cargo is nothing to write home about. The ability is infamous for producing some of the most expensive, least-loved ships in the game -- has anyone ever actually used the Scepter, the Hannah, or the truly awful Le Solitaire? This one is the least expensive ship ever to bear this ability, so if you ever wanted to find out how it works without spending all your points, this might be the way to go. If so, she needs a Helmsman to get her close to your ships but sheltered from enemy fire.

Fantasia is not a gold ship, or a fighter, or a boarder. She's strictly a support player, which limits her usefulness. You can always use her to tow derelicts or ferry a crew from one of your fighting ships to another. But there are literally dozens of ships that can do this faster and for less points. Unless you really want to try out the ability, I'd leave this ship unpunched and trade her for something good.

Um...wow. WizKids was really getting into the Disney spirit with this boat. It's named for a Disney movie and is covered in a toon-like field of stars. Is it all shine and no bite?

Perhaps not.

This ship is one of those rare boats that has the ability to give allies within S a +1 to their cannons rolls. Unlike those ships, this one is not totally overpriced, only 11 points.

Also unlike those boats, her cannon is good, a 2S, though she'll rely on those nearby allies to protect her instead of doing the fighting herself.

Her speed is rather slow, only L, but she's got room for a helmsman.

She only has two cargo spaces, but you won't want her to go gold-running if you use her; she'll be too busy assisting your fighters to collect treasure.

If you need to give your ships a helping hand, this is probobly the best you can do. Unfortunately, it's a Super Rare, so good luck finding one. She's a pricey investment though.

On a final note, I find its flavor text very ironic. The text says that Fantasia "will sail only for the pure of heart" and yet it's a Pirate. Since when are pirates known for their pure hearts? This might fit in with Whitebeard's faction better.

I give the Fantasia a 3.5/5.

It's the 3rd day of PotC Week...you know what this means...actually, you don't.

Fantasia, 12 points, Pirate

Masts: 1

Cargo: 2

Speed: L

Cannon: 2S

Abilities: Friendly ships within S of this ship get +1 to their cannon rolls.

Flavor Text: Rumors of the Fantasia are whispered in every pirate

port: a ship of pure magic that will sail for only the pure of heart.

Ack...probably one of the worst ships in the set. Just visually...you know that whenever you have something that involves Disney, you're going to get something like this. Such a totally, totally lame ship.

The Flavor Text...gag. Just pure...lameness emanates from this ship.

Onto it, though.

It seems that in every set since Le Solitaire, WK has tried to make the support ship ability much better, and a lot less lame. So far, the Fantasia is the newest incarnation of WK trying to alleviate the overpriced support ship. But did it work? Yes and no.

Yes, because it's a lot cheaper now. Compare it to La Crete Argentee, or something like that. And you'll know what I mean.

No, because it's still not very useful. If this ship was 10 points, and had S+L speed, darn right you'd see people using this ship. But no, that's not how it works, is it?

Luckily, the only thing this ship will need is a helmsman, bringing it up to S+L speed. But then you realize that also for 14 points, you could get the Scepter, which has L+L move...err...well, crud. Game over.

At least you still get the ability even if you're derelict...if that really matters, since statistically most gunships score at least 2 hits in one shoot action anyway.

The Fantasia receives a 2/5. Still a long way to go.
