Cadet-Captain Mike

Name: Fleur de la Mort (Pirates)

Card: PC #027 (Uncommon)

Points: 14

Masts: 4

Cargo: 3

Moves: L

Guns : 4S, 4L, 4L, 4S

Hit %: 133 (S), 67 (L)

Ability: If this ship wins a boarding party, she can capture the crew with the highest point cost instead of eliminating it. A captured crew becomes cargo worth its point cost in gold when unloaded at your home island.

The "Flower of Death" has pretty pastel-blue sails, is captained by a woman, and has a non-violent ability. I call "chick ship" on this one.

She's generally below average in most respects; boarding is the only thing she does well. I'd crew her with a Helmsman, the basic-model Will Turner (move/shoot and +1 on boarding), and Gentleman Jocard (add a cargo space), so you can capture two crew before your cargo holds are full and you have to go home. The move/shoot isn't because her cannons are so great (they aren't), but to induce your victim to run away instead of leaving you pinned.

The beauty of this ship's ability is that it not only enriches you, it also lets you take out the enemy's best crew instead of letting him lose the worst ones first. If you usually play a gold or fighting strategy, using the Fleur de la Mort would be a fun way to throw your enemy off balance.

Goldship rating: 1.7 / 5

Gun Ship rating: 2.8 / 5

Boarding rating: 3.3 / 5

Value for points: 3.2 / 5

Draco Starcloud Fleur De La Mort

I think it's safe to say that this is the worst ship I've reviewed so far this week.

Her ability allows her to capture the highest ranking crew on an enemy ship and turn it into gold. Great if your enemy is using a lot of high-priced crew, but can the Fleur perform under pressure?

Her guns are below average, two 4S and two 4L, so you'll have trouble defanging any enemy you can catch. The Fleur only has a base move of L, so you'll have trouble catching anything that isn't actively gunning for it.

For a ship meant to steal treasure, she doesn't have a lot of room, only three spaces.

Her size is the only thing she has going for her and that won't help much against anything carrying crew worth taking.

The best things this ship has are her size and her appearance. She's too slow and undergunned to be of much use. The 14 points you'd spend on her would be better spent on a bunch of small ships or something better armed. If you have other boats that can soften her targets up ahead of time, she could be useful, but I'd recommend leaving her in the collection.

I give the Fleur De La Mort a 1.5/5.

Day 4 of PotC...don't know if I can make it much longer...I hate this set.

Fleur de la Mort, 14 points

Masts: 4

Cargo: 3

Speed: L

Cannons: 4S 4L 4L 4S

Abilities: If this ship wins a boarding party, she can capture the crew with the highest point cost instead of eliminating it. A captured crew becomes cargo worth its point cost in gold when unloaded at your home island.

Flavor Text: Captained by the pirate Laura Smith, the magical deep blue sails of the Fleur de la Mort render her invisible on the open sea.

Jeez, creepy ship much? Based on my poor translation skills, this ship's name means "Flower of Death". Well, at least the ship doesn't have sunflowers and daisies decorating its hull and sails. Because one, that would be lame. And two, the Fantasia also came out in this set, and one person can only take so much. Another thing. What does capturing crew have to do with being invisible? Sometimes I wonder about whoever writes Flavor Text. Enough of my rambling, and onto the ship!

Visually impressive? Yeah. Stats wise? Not so much.

So, what do you have to do to turn this ship into something that's worthy of the game table? A lot. Being boarding oriented, I recommend PotSM's Genny's Red Rampage, which gives +1 to your boarding rolls.

What else do I suggest? A crew like Griffin or Calico Cat, which gives you the ability to move and shoot, and the ability to reroll one die roll. Third? A helmsman. Of course, now we're out of room, right?

Wrong. Add in Gentleman Jocard, who takes up no cargo, but gives +1 cargo spaces. And what will that extra space be for? Why, none other than the crew you're going off to capture! And all of this, for the sail away cost of...27 points?!

Crud. And you still have rank 4 cannons, AND with only S+L speed, you're not going to catch much. Double crud.

This ship gets a 2.5/5 from me.
