In the Colonial Trader, we see a
brand-new ability, one that gives cargo in exchange
for not using crew. It's a great idea. But on this
ship, it doesn't work. She looks good, but that's
about the best thing that can be said about her.
If you use the ability, you've
spent 14 points for a ship with 5 cargo and a speed
of L. The Rattlesnake can do that for only 5 points.
Meh.
But if you add the Helmsman that
this ship desperately needs, you've spent 16 points
for a ship with S+L speed and only 2 free cargo. The
Chesapeake can do that for only 7 points. Another
meh. And if you really must have a ship with four
4-rank cannons, the Yankee is faster, has more
cargo, has two L-range guns, and costs less. Three
meh's, you're out.
I'd recommend using the Colonial
Trader as a gold ship if she were faster, or if she
cost less. But she isn't, and she doesn't, so you
shouldn't.
