| Cadet-Captain Mike | Name: Bonifacio (France) Card: FS #063 (Common) Points: 10 Masts: 3 Cargo: 2 Moves: L Guns : 3S,3L,3S Hit %: 150 (S), 50 (L) Ability: Galley. When this ship is
docked at your home island, you can eliminate one
treasure. It becomes a 3S cannon that can be
eliminated only when the ship sinks.   The Bonifacio is another
							good-looking three-masted galley, this time a French
ship. She has a nice mix of cannons, average stats
otherwise, and an ability that lets you buy the
equivalent of a Musketeer for only 1 gold.   Is it wise to spend your treasure
on fighting power? That depends on the game
situation. If it's a close game, you'd be unwise to
risk your chances of winning, just to add a cannon
to a so-so ship. If you're bringing in all
high-value coins, you wouldn't want to spend one of
those on a cannon. So the only time you'd use the
Bonifacio's ability is if you're winning
comfortably, with some cheap coins on your home
island. This means that you have to buy the ship
without knowing in advance if its ability will be of
any use to you or not.   The ten points you spend on the
Bonifacio could get you Le Courageux or Le Bonne
Chance instead, and those ships are useful in any
circumstance. Again, it's a question of whether
you own those ships. If you have nothing better, the
Bonifacio isn't a horrible ship, just a very average
							one.   Goldship rating: 2.1 / 5 Gun Ship rating: 3.0 / 5 Boarding rating: 2.5 / 5 Value for points: 2.8 / 5 |

The Bonifacio is the kind of boat that is best used
when you have a huge lead in gold. She has that
interesting ability to turn a treasure into a 3S
							cannon.

Bonifacio already has a slightly above-average
cannon mix, one 3L and two 3S, but she can become a
heavily-armed marauder if you're willing to give up
a lot of treasure, preferably 1s that you can afford
							to give.

There's no way the Bonifacio will be able to collect
its own gold though. It only has two cargo spaces
and a base move of "L". By the time it got some gold
and got it home, it might be too late to turn the
tide. If you've got plenty of swift gold runners
though, you might be able to take good advantage of
							this ability.

Bonifacio's a good backup fighter at 10 points, but
without expendable gold, she's got no reason not to
be an active participant in any fight she's present
for. With a few discarded gold though, she could
even go a couple of rounds with the bigger boys.

 I give the Bonifacio a 3/5.
