Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Ghost Walker (USA)
Card: OE #141 (Special Edition)
Points: 15
Masts: 3
Cargo: 4
Moves: L
Guns : 2L,2L,2L
Hit %: 200 (S), 200 (L)
Ability: Windcatcher. Once per turn, one crew or
ship within S of this ship cannot use its ability
that turn.
Unlike the other cancellers we look at this week,
the Ghost Walker has the cannons to take care of
herself. Believe it or not, this can pose a problem.
The Windcatcher keyword lets her do a 180-degree
turn before moving; thus, the more she reverses
directions, the faster she goes. Other than that,
she needs a Helmsman. And those excellent 2L cannons
just cry out for a Captain. And herein lies the
problem: the cannons, and her size, can make you
forget that she's just a costly three-master, and
make you think she's a first-rank fighter. Yes, it
would be a shame not to use those cannons in battle,
but don't send her up against HMS Endeavour all by
herself, even if she does match a five-master in
length. Use her for her ability first, and shoot
only if fighting doesn't distract you from her
supporting role.
This ship with the odd name (for an American) is the
most expensive of all the cancellers (except another
American, the longship Kettering).
She's also one of the best. The Ghost Walker was
available only in OE mega-packs and Plunder Packs,
which are still available on-line, so if your
American fleet doesn't include this fine ship, you
ought to try to get her.
