Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: HMS Rye (England)
Card: SC #206 (Limited Edition)
Points: 9
Masts: 1
Cargo: 2
Moves: S+S+S
Guns : 5S
Hit %: 17 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: Once per turn, one crew or ship within S of
this ship cannot use its ability that turn.
Here, we have a ship whose guns and cargo are so
abominably bad, and whose speed is so amazingly
good, that you'll have no problem remembering that
her role is to support other ships.
HMS Rye is a galley, but doesn't get the Galley
keyword. Her speed is as good as it gets; her cannon
is as bad as it gets. All she's really good for is
cancelling things. Her combination of speed and low
price makes her a very good value, too. With only
one mast, she can't endure any damage, so you don't
want to put many crew on her. Maybe an Oarsman to
get her home, but not much more than that.
The Rye is unambiguously a support ship, albeit a
very fast and inexpensive one. Send her into action
hiding behind something big and powerful. She can
pop out and negate an enemy ability, the
big-and-powerful ship can smack that enemy...
problem solved. Don't leave her on her own, though,
or she'll be toast. Badly burnt toast.
