Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Mobilis (Mercenaries)
Card: MI #006 (Rare)
Points: 11
Masts: 2
Cargo: 3
Moves: S
Guns : 4S,4S
Hit %: 67 (S), 0 (L)
Link : Eileen Brigid O’Brien
Ability: Mercenary, Submarine. Once per turn, one
crew or ship within S of this ship cannot use its
ability that turn.
It was nice for the Mercs to get a canceller ship,
since they have so little else to work with. Too bad
the ship is close to useless.
With dead-slow speed and poor cannons, this ship is
no combatant. Add the necessary Helmsman, and she
can probably keep up with the action, cancelling and
sub-ramming as the opportunity arises. Of course,
this means you've spent 13 points on a ship and crew
that can't shoot or gather gold, and still isn't the
fastest boat in the bay. And if the enemy has a ship
that can shoot submerged ships, or worse yet, his
own canceller, the Mobilis will quickly go down for
the last time. You might be better off using
Christian Fiore instead; he's overpriced for a
canceller crew, but he's still cheaper than this sub
is.
The link to Eileen Brigid O'Brien, the Captain and
English-hater, is a waste, since this sub is no
fighter even with a cannon bonus. Her intended role
is support to gunships. But the Mercs don't have any
really good gunships worth supporting, and the
Mobilis' speed and cost make her a poor choice in
any case. I'm a big fan of submarines in real life,
but this one just won't do the job.
