This week's reviews focus on ships with the
Canceller ability, a flexible and powerful talent
that can play havoc with any enemy's carefully
chosen plan. This ability is usually worth 5 points
by itself, so you can figure out what the ship is
worth.
The El Paso isn't worth much aside from her ability.
She's a thoroughly lackluster 2-master, ill-suited
for gunnery and only slightly better for gold. But
tack on the Canceller and she becomes a useful ship
for a decent price. A Helmsman is all the crew she
needs, or ought to have; she'll be a priority
target, so don't spend any more on her than you have
to. But if you can spare the points, Joaquin Vega
(ignore the first hit each turn while intact) could
keep her alive when it's crunch time.
This is far from being a great ship. She's really
just a hull to carry her ability around, and nothing
more. But if you want that ability, and you aren't
inclined to use Nemesio Diaz to get it, the El Paso
will do the job.
