This Crew-fer Two-fer is really a one-fer, because
the two new crew are identical. Okay, Gunn has the
Loyal keyword, and Gold is easier to find, and their
links are different. But their cost is the same, and
their abilities are the same, so I'm treating them
the same.
The Captain+Helmsman combination is the most common
crew set-up in the game. Every fighting ship needs
it, except those that get another crew which
includes the Captain ability, and those lucky ships
that are fast enough not to need a Helmsman. These
new named crew give you both abilities in one crew.
That's good if you want to save cargo spaces.
It's bad if your enemy likes to kill your crew - you
could lose both abilities from one hit or one
boarding action.
Gunn on the Apollo makes excellent sense, since that
ship needs both his abilities. Gold links to Van
Tyne, who is what we used to call a Musketeer, so
she's also meant for fighting wherever you put her.
Both crew give you exactly what you pay for, while
saving a cargo space (two if you use their links).
WizKids is experimenting with new combinations of
old abilities in this release, and these two crew
turned out pretty well.
These two English crew cards are so similar to each
other, they don’t almost need separate reviews. Both
of them are combination Captain/Helmsmen that cost
just as much as a Captain and a Helmsman would (5
points). They each have a link, though Thomas Gunn’s
is more useful. He can make the HMS Apollo into a
hot-rodding battlewagon while Hermione Gold’s link
to basically a cheaper Musketeer who can’t fight
alongside the Cursed.
I give Thomas Gunn a 5/5 and Hermione Gold a 4.5/5.
